sound deadening a single wall top

I would think a dynomat type product would be helpful but really don't want that foil finish!

Anyone know of a sound deadener that comes in white or some other neutral color?

ive actualy used that stuff before on cabs of logging machinery. it must be good cause we didnt cheap out on anything.

Ok not going to lie, I camp 4 seasons with my rig sleeping in the bed area. A marine wood stove ported through the roof is something I have seriously considered. If they didn't cost a grand I would have done it already.

Hey John get off this board! It just keeps costing you $$$$ ha ha. BTW I checked at AK rubber about the high density vinyl. They don't carry it. They do have neoprene in 1/8 and 1/4 sheets but it's pretty light weight stuff, I think a denser higher end product would be better.

As to bedliner on the outside, I see how that could work, but I wonder how much weight it would add. That thing is already a pain to manhandle and I take it on and off pretty regularly in the summer.

To update this a bit.

Current thinking is to use some dynomat type product in the recessed areas of the single wall topper I have. I would then cover that with the foam headliner I linked to earlier.

This is only half the equation. My tub is rhino lined inside and out (underneath not exterior body panels of course). So sheet metal resonance is pretty dulled already. However I don't have a carpet kit (or want one) and have no sound barrier from road noise and exhaust. Stopping the echo effect is what the topper treatment is for. Stopping it from getting in in the first place is another matter.

My reading on the topic (source linked above and many other sources as well) says I need a "mass loaded vinyl" (high density rubber basically) layer riding on a thin foam cushion.

To that end I am thinking of a thin neoprene foam layer with the mass loaded vinyl over that. The vinyl from what I can tell should be pretty tough. The end result would be similar to doing a vinyl flooring kit instead of carpet. The difference will be in the density of the vinyl. Of course it wont be molded and pretty, but I think I can make it look pretty decent if I take my time.

None of this is cheap and I am not in a hurry so plans and ideas may change.

The sounddeadnershowdown site is a good one, but I've also read a lot of good things about the lizard skin. Problem is comparing it to other types of deadeners gets mixed reviews. Considering you want to do the top, Lizardskin would be my choice with both the insulation and the deadener. This way you can paint over it after wards and it will look like it's not really there.
