My "Simple Silverado"
Well I have been collecting parts for a while now and finally thought I would start a build thread. It will be nothing fancy and maybe slow going as it is my daily driver. It's a 1990 silverado that I got from my great uncle. He bought it new in 1990 in Alabama.Plans are for a 4/6 drop,16" tahoe limited wheels with astro van center caps, front smooth chrome bumper/rear rollpan, debadged and smoothed exterior, repainted solid white as from factory with maybe a dark grey two toning of some sort.I hope to get started here soon.Got a couple of good scores at the scrap yard last week so I am itching to get going on it.Thanks for taking the time to look,Richie
starting point......... my wheels as of now.Strpping, painting and polishing to come Last edited by Richie; 03-10-2011 at 04:35 AM. |

Re: My "Simple Silverado"
Swapped out the headlights for the '89 four light setup.Picked up a set of power mirrors off of a 98 suburban,an overhead console from the same this weekend. Also swapped out the front bumper for a factory chrome smoothie.I picked up some belltech 2" spindles,2" coils and nitro drop shocks off of craigslist last week.Got a flip kit for the rear so I hope in two weeks to have it lower..........

Re: My "Simple Silverado"
I picked up a hood from a lumina Z34 last week.I cut the vents out of it and am in the process of trimming them down.I thought about putting them in my hood. How do you think they would look? They will not be on the hood but in them.I cut out the recessed pockets they fit in and will be welding them into my hood.I want them flush.I also replaced my mirrors with the tahoe mirrors and just need to hook up the wiring.Got the harness made already just need a place to put the switch.
These are the kind of vents I got.I plan on mounting them over the valve cover area of the hood, not the sides as on the car.Opinions? |

Like a modern interpretation of an SS camaro/nova hood:
I like the idea a lot.

Re: My "Simple Silverado"
Got a nice salvage yard find yesterday.I have been picking apart this 98 suburban that got t-boned in the driverside passenger area.I got the mirrors off it already and went back to get the seats, console, overhead console and rear bumper. The best thing about it was my wife went with me to get it all!
front bumper and mirrors installed Last edited by Richie; 03-10-2011 at 04:41 AM. |

Re: My "Simple Silverado"
Well I was wiring up my power mirrors in my back yard today.Made several trips to the shed about 10 feet away.Went inside, came back out and went to go in the shed again and about stepped on this right near the doorway.Talk about waking you up.
I thought this was a safe hobby |

Re: My "Simple Silverado"
It is from a 1989 Jeep Cherokee.I made a center cap by sanding down the raised "jeep" logo and epoxied a flat electrical box filler plug to it.Painted it grey.

Looking good...
Been going to grab up a set of power mirrors myself. Mine are just some cheap aftermarket junk from OReillys. You have a wiring diagram you used?

Re: My "Simple Silverado"
I got the entire setup out of a 1998 suburban.I hooked up the ground and power wire and plugged everything else in.I do have the schematics for the suburban though if you needed it.

Re: My "Simple Silverado"
Once you installed the 4/6 drop did you have any issues with those American Racing outlaw wheels rubbing anywhere? It looks awesome. I can get a set of those but with out tires so it's hard to tell if they would rub until I get tires for them.

Re: My "Simple Silverado"
So did you just cut out the circle in the frame or weld something in there? Project is looking good.

Re: My "Simple Silverado"
Sorry guys for the looong delay in any answers.I have a new toy to take up my time so my truck kinda took a back seat and will be just for transportation as of now.It will get attention now and then but not what it was.The american wheels rubbed at first but I rolled the lips of the fenders and now it is ok.I have the other wheels for it but haven't had the funds to get the tires yet.So yes they did rub but now it is fine. The notches were 4" pipe split.I notched the frame with a pattern I made and welded them in.ground the edges to clean them up and they work fine.i do need new shocks and cannot hold anything in the bed over 300 pounds or it bottoms out.Regular driving is fine unless i hit a pothole or bump.Front sucks it up fine, rear don't like it much but new shocks would help.I also plan on getting helper bags for towing something.Hidden hitch is on its way also. Thanks for the compliments,Richie

Nice truck. How did you mount the mirror switch on the back side of the panel. Looks clean.
