How to duplicate the textured paint like on glovebox and dash panel
I'm wanting to paint a piece of steel textured black to look like the glovebox door and the dash cluster. Has anybody figured out a way to do this? Any ideas?

I did this one in my tow truck with Duplicolor spray-on bedliner. It's close enough for me.

Re: How to duplicate the textured paint like on glovebox and dash panel
You can get a similar look by using a HVLP spray gun. First, lay down a smooth base coat and wait until it starts to flash off or about 10-15 minutes. Then, turn down the air pressure at the gun and spray over the part evenly but keep the gun moving. You will need to have a couple of samples to work with to get the "desired" texture, but this is how I do it.

The wrinkle paint I have used is one that you bake in the oven. Okay on metal, but plastic is gonna have to be treated differently.
Some people have used glove box doors for guage mounts. It could take the heat....

Re: How to duplicate the textured paint like on glovebox and dash panel
all three brands i've listed are designed to work on plastic as well as metal// i use a little heat from hair dryer to speed things up or put in hot sunlight to allow wrinkleing naturally// yes on metal it will wrinkle better faster and more extreme if oven or heatlamp cured

Re: How to duplicate the textured paint like on glovebox and dash panel
Thanks guys, these are great ideas. I was going to use brushed stainless, but I'm not sure it would "go" with my base model interior. I'll have to go to the store and take a close look at the options.

Use a high nap roller for texture. You're talking about a real tiny part to paint. I'm sure it'd work just fine.

Re: How to duplicate the textured paint like on glovebox and dash panel
I think the dash texture isn't really a wrinkle finish. That's why I did it the way I did. I actually used it on some shocks when I realized it matches the dash texture. It's really simple.

Re: How to duplicate the textured paint like on glovebox and dash panel
I agree. That finish is more of a stiple than a wrinkle.
