My truck is a stock 68, drum brakes all around and not altered in any major way other than paint. If I bought 4 tires of the same height and width, would the front ones stick out past the fender edge more than the rear? (Assuming the rear line up perfectly with the edge of the fender.)

Yes.
The track width of the front is slightly wider than the rear track width.

i think the 2wd is even front and rear.

yes 2wd and 4wd trucks front tires stick out wider than the back it isnt very noticeable but if you look for it you will see it

Thanks for the data. My next question is WHY??? I know its not a big deal but it is enough to bother me, you can see it in the pics thread but I thought it might be a camera angle. What is the engineering advantage and more importantly how can I fix it?? I have heard talk of offsets. Do I need discs to fix it? Either way would work for me, push the rears out to match or fronts in to match. Please help me understand my options. Thanks.

FYI - It only bothers me because I can't stand uneven things, especially on the one vehicle that comes so close to perfection for me with its lines as this one does.

My front is about 3 inches wider than the rear. I have an ECE 4/6 drop so I wasn't sure if the spindles were what pushed them out or if it was like that originally.

I see. Still nothing like leaving 4 separate tire tracks in the snow (or in the is case wider ones.) That's not what bothers me though, its just the uneveness.

Yeah, what he said. The wider front helps with stability and straightness. Ever see those 3-wheeled street cars? They have 2 wheels up front and one in the back. That's a very exaggerated case of the front being wider than the rear, but it works. Ever see those old 70's cars with stock size front tyres and super wide rears? They also didn't handle as well. Not to mention that they jacked 'em way up in the rear, reducing caster up front!

Add spacers to the rear wheels.

lolife's is the simplest and cheapest way to get it done, but man, if that bothers you, the fact that the wheels aren't in the center of the wheel wells must be killer!

If you ever switch to discs in the front, it's just going to get worse to since they push them out about a half in on each side.

You guys are funny, I get ribbing for what seems to be a small thing while there are others who are worried about period correct chalk markings on the firewall =) I guess we all have our own quirks or goals, mine is symmetry.

And thanks TubbedII, I hadn't noticed that till you said that. Hah! No solving that one. Well, at least its not as bad as my 66 where the front wheel wells are higher than the rear =)

If it makes you feel better, I suffer from the same syndrome. I don't know what its called, but unsymmetrical things really bother me.

Well then....the early Sixties had a custom trend that embodied assymetrical styling. Think Ed Roth.....Mysterion. Barris built one that had a slant 6 plymouth engine. There were a bunch, back then. Did I like 'em? They had their place in the automotive world, but I knew I'd never own one. The Art Deco style is more to my liking.

its an O.C.D type. just like people that have to have their pants fly, belt buckle and button up shirt perfectly lined up at all times. the navy beats that O.C.D. into your head at boot camp. now when i wear a tucked in button up shirt, pants and a belt they all have to be perfectly in line or it bothers the fork out of me.

OCD for sure....although, my girlfriend and I call it CDO because we like for the letters to be in alphabetical order...the width differences have always bugged me too, so you aren't alone

That's why I alway run a wider wheel on the rear.
