The last 1972 Chevy/GMC Truck
Does anyone have any info on the last 1972 truck to roll off the assembly line? Has it survived? Is it in a museum? Pics?

Re: The last 1972 Chevy/GMC Truck
Wow, was not expecting to see this here tonight. I actually have some info on the very last 72 ever built. Sorry to say, it did not survive. BUT, pieces of it are still around. The truck was last owned by my good friend Chuck Sell ( board member Chucks70.) It was inscribed on the firewall by the guys at the Chevy truck plant as the last 72 ever made. The truck was TOTALLY trashed, but Chuck cut out the inscription and sent it to truck board member #1 Josh. He gave me the drivers door, and I cut out the door sticker and gave it to Brian Burns (board member Burnsman) a few years back. It was white (with a blue interior I am pretty sure) Dont remember much else about it. Would love to see the inscription if Josh ever took any pictures of it. Havent seen Josh since the national event at Bosses in 07. Cmon Josh, come out of hiding. hehe

Cool topic, I never thought about it. How about the 1st one off the assembly line in 67?

Re: The last 1972 Chevy/GMC Truck
Thanks for the bump Tim. I was very honored to have this truck touch my life even in such a small way. We have over 70,000 members on this board, so its pretty obvious how special these trucks are to us. I dont think that a coin collector or any "other" kind of hobbyist could even understand what makes us tick. The look in our eyes when we see a 12 point bolt, or a set of extreme bend towhooks. Pretty damn cool if you ask me. Proud to be a part of it.

Re: The last 1972 Chevy/GMC Truck
I want to know who has the truck built exactly in the middle!
I think when they rolled the last '72 off the line they already knew these trucks were going to be around for a long long time.

Re: The last 1972 Chevy/GMC Truck
I like learning about the history on these too. I'd love to hear more of the last 72 (who owned it, engine trans, what led to its demise, etc). Was it a BB highlander option package C!!

Re: The last 1972 Chevy/GMC Truck
If my memory serves me right, it was converted into some kind of a special truck for dry docking boats or something. The bed was removed and it was backed into the water, which is why the thing was so totally trashed. If I could get a hold of Chuck, he could set the record straight. The door he gave me was rusted almost up to the door handle. It was rough.

Re: The last 1972 Chevy/GMC Truck
This is a great thread and I was wondering since the last 72 truck is gone has anyone identified what truck officially fills that role now as the last truck because the original is dismantled? I was curious.

Re: The last 1972 Chevy/GMC Truck
man, looks like i'm going to have to take a good look at my 72's vin and see if i can decode it for the build date. what was the date on that truck? did he at lease keep the vin plate? that's the first thing that i would have kept. and maybe the glove box door if it was still intact for the spid

I am gonna have to get in touch with Chuck and get him to fill you guys in. I am sure he kept as much from the truck that he possibly could. Stay tuned......

Re: The last 1972 Chevy/GMC Truck
By absolute "last" truck, are you going by VIN? Because how many plants were there making these things? Were the VIN's predetermined? I mean, wouldn't they have pretty much all ended at the same time? And if they didn't, could the highest numerical VIN (which you would assume would have been the last truck made) have actually been made earlier than a truck at another plant with a lower VIN? Too many variables to me.

Re: The last 1972 Chevy/GMC Truck
well it could have been the fact that it was the last one to roll off the line at the plant where it was made. but i would think that numerically that it would be the last one as well
