Powerglide Problem - Please Help!
I have a Powerglide on my 68 behind my 350 until I can afford a 700R4. Anyway, it shifts into 2nd way early and also does not kickdown when I want to pass someone. In addition, there is no vacuum line attached to my carb from the tranny. I have been researching the issue but am confused. Do they all use a vacuum line? Do they all have governers. How do I adjust the detent rod I keep reading about. All of the articles say at the carb but I cannot find where it connects. Can someobody please help educate me? Thanks.

I would go to a wrecking yard and get some old transmission cooler lines cut off the flared ends go to your local auto parts store and buy some rubber line and hook it up to your carb or intake.I cant remember wich one it plugs into.I lost my original line on my impala and i did this its held up for a long time.Make shure its an aliminum line they are easier to bend.

Re: Powerglide Problem - Please Help!
Thanks for all the info Richard72 and RBagley, what does the vaccumm line from the tranny to the intake manifold do? I can put it in low and it will stay that way into higher rpms and shift. Just no kickdown and it shifts early if I don't manualyy walk it up..
Thanks JumkShortep - Is that in the Chasssis Mauals we see on Ebay, if so I wil look it up. I will let you know if i need you to email me that and thanks. Will the fact I have an Edlebrock make a huge difference because there is some linkage difference? Thanks RBageky - I didn't even think of that and will do it. Thanks Richard 72 - I metal tubing will be WAY better, I'm goona do it. Thanks everyone. For around town is seems like a Powerglide is ok but I need better gas mileage, power and the ability to not be the head of parades on highways. Last edited by ubtripn; 03-07-2011 at 10:09 AM. |
