Re: Is there anyway to tell NOS from aftermarket on grills

I just installed a NOS on mine last weekend. Mine was in the original box and I got it on EBAY a few months ago. I looked close but not sure if there are marks with any numbers. How much they asking for everything? I paid $690 on EBAY for the outer and $175 on CL for the inner. Both were infactory GM boxes.

Re: Is there anyway to tell NOS from aftermarket on grills

Randy, on the inner, I think it has the part number molded into the plastic and it was made in Canada. The outer grille, doesn't have a part number stamped on it, but I've heard that the aluminum is thicker. I've never mic'd it.

Further, when you install a repo outer grille on the 71-72s, the hood to grille gap is a mile wide. Not even close to original or NOS.

THANKS Dave, I'm going to look at it Wed, so I'll check for a part number on inner. Randy

Randy,

The grill bowtie emblem has a number on the back as you may already know. The inner grill does have a number, if you look at the grill on the back side and look at the 2nd lower mount location from drivers side and just towards the passenger side of that lower mount on the lip you will see the gm part number there. I never could find one on the outer, but it was in the original box and was fully wrapped in plastic.

Re: Is there anyway to tell NOS from aftermarket on grills

Well inner is NOS, so I figure outer is and bezels, emblem is OEM. Its all in good shape, a couple small scratches on outer and some of the black paint has peeled off, 80 year old had it hanging in a barn
