My 76 C-10 Build
I just bought the truck last month. Only rust is the lower right front fender and some surface rust from scratches in the paint. Plans are a 5/5 drop some 18 Boss 338 rims and repaint it white with some ghost blue pearl in the clear. It will take me awhile since I am a long haul truck driver but i will keep you all updated. I have been wanting to do a short box for a long time cant wait to get started on it. I just joined this site but I have been reading alot of your posts. Alot of good information on this site thanks guys.

Re: My 76 C-10 Build
nice wheels im gonna drop mine some more also. my 77 c10 has cut springs unfortunately in the front ( i didnt cut them). the rear i think they moved the bottom plate to the top of the leaf making the rear suspension really stiff. if i remove the plate and install the 5 inch lowering shackle kit will it actually sit 5 inches lower than if i had not removed the plate??

Re: My 76 C-10 Build
hed6909 do you have a picture of the suspension in the back dont know what you mean by plate on top of leaf springs. My 5/5 is going to be done with a djm flip kit, 3 inch drop spindles and 2 in drop springs.

Re: My 76 C-10 Build
a little update on project, found some different rims let me know the which look better. left or right. Also wife called and said my rollpan just showed up yesterday. I hate i got 2 and 1/2 more weeks till i get home to see it and put it on. I did score a nice dash pad from the junkyard before i left home only on small crack by the speaker but in beautiful shape not bad for $20 bucks. I already fixed the crack with some vinly repair. i will get some more pics up when i get home.

Re: My 76 C-10 Build
Yeah it sound like a flip kit but dont know why your suspion is so stiff, doing a flip kit just puts the axle on top of springs and does change how they ride. But if they did not change the shocks to lowering shocks that could be your problem. The djm flip kit comes with shock extenders so you can use stock shocks so you have a stock ride coming from the back. check your shocks out.

Re: My 76 C-10 Build
I went through the whole 40 page thread on boss rims last my head hurt after reading all of it. I think i am still going to go with the boss rims, dont know if i have 1.25 or 1" rotors, wont find out till i get home. If i have the 1", great no problems, if i have the 1.25 then it looks like i have a little grinding to do. But like some of the guys said, if we wanted stock vehicles we would not be on the site, custom means mods.

Re: My 76 C-10 Build
I just got back on the road and got a few things done to the truck. I had my daughters wedding while i was on home time, so did not get much done. I finally got the bumper off as you can see in the pics it had a hitch attached to it that was welded to the frame with 1/2 thick steel they sure did not want it coming off. I stared putting the roll pan on got i welding underneath need to finish welding it to back under the bed for a clean look without screws. I also started tackling the rust on the hood but gave after welding in about 4 pieces across the front. I found a rust free gmc hood off a 77, and a rust free right front fender, the right side is the only side that had some rust in the lower part of the fender and the rear quarter. I started taking of metal off the lower fender and it turned into a 7inch high hole, thank god we still have rust free trucks at the junkyards out here in washington. I like the hood off the gmc it had a little different design on the front than mine did when i get some pics of it i will post them. Got the hood and fender for $80, not a bad deal. The black stuff on the back of the bed is roll on bed liner the, guy I bought the truck off of went a little crazy with it. the whole bumper was covered with too. I will get some more pics up when i get home next time.

Re: My 76 C-10 Build
We are selling the house so I had to do all the body work and paint in one week talk about being tired after that week. I was going to paint it with a hot rod satin black just so it had paint on it till we got another house but the my paint guy sold me some industrial single stage that i could get in any color so i chose a Intense blue pearl dodge color came out sharp there are a few ghost fades, metallic single stage and wetsanding, buffing do not mix. But when i repaint her i will do a base clear really like this blue.

Re: My 76 C-10 Build
Yeah i sprayed it. I should have went with a solid color instead of a metallic, though. I usually do a base/clear but was in a hurry and funds were tight. A solid color you can wet sand and buff and you dont get the faded spots. I will try to get some pics of them when i get home. If you know how to buff or know someone who can buff then as long as you dont run the paint its pretty easy to wet sand. I use 1500 grit and just take it a panel at a time make sure i got out all the orange peel and then you buff with a rough compound and then a swirl remover compound and then wax. Just stay away from corners and edges you dont want to burn the paint when buffing or wet sand your paint off to the primer.

Re: My 76 C-10 Build
Just take your time spraying, and make sure you do 50% overlap on each next pass, and try to get at least 3 coats of color on it for the cutt and buff if you decided to go that route. I have the know how for buffing so i do it to everything i paint just habit now. Also your color and clear are mixed into one so once you start finish the entire paint job, I would start at top and work your way down. Roof, hood, then drivers side fender, door, bed, tailgate, passenger side bed, door, and fender. Its all on what your comfortable with. The paint i used was fast drying industrial so I got alot of orange peel. You can get a single stage that does not dry as fast but you will have to be careful for runs.

Re: My 76 C-10 Build
The motor has only 30,000 after rebuild and tranny was just rebuilt last year. It runs awesome. I am putting a set of 18x8, and 18x9.5 Boss 338s on it when i get home and giving it the 5,5 drop. Thats about it for drivetrain, all i really have left is the interior. I scored an entire headliner and all the trim at the junkyard and have to put some carpet in it. That will be good until the wife and i get another house next year sometime.

Re: My 76 C-10 Build
Well i got it lowered and got the rims on her. She is getting there. I did 3inch spindles with 1 coil cut for about a 5 inch drop in the front and did the flip kit out back. I ended up changing all the brakes up front because the place i bought the djm kit from sent the spindles for the 1 inch rotors. So i had to buy all the stuff for 1 inch it worked out for the Boss wheels did not need to do all the machine work to the rotors. The wheels are Boss 338's 18x8 and 18x9.5 tires are Toyos 255/45-18 front 295/45-18 back. Still got to finish the interior.
