shipping from Canada
I ordered a part from a dealer in Alberta, and was told there was no duty on parts to the U.S. I would just pay the shipping costs when it arrived. I e-mailed UPS to see what the charges are, and was told there may be duties and taxes due as well as freight costs. Anyone gotten anything from canada. What should I expect??

I don't know how it works the other way around but when I get stuff from the states that is shipped through UPS, they screw you BIG time. UPS up here charges you to clear the parcel and they don't charge you lightly. If I am getting something shipped through UPS I clear my own customs.

I don't know what happens when you order from us but when I order from the USA I get screwed by UPS and or FEDEX on the customs brokers fees. Duty is often nil or not much but I have to pay Provincial Sales Tax and Federal Tax and I have to pay the customs brokers fees. That is usually the worst part. I ordered a double roller timing chain set a while back and it cost me about double what I could have got it here for by the time I was done. A lesson learned.
I don't know if it works the same way on your side but if it is small enough to mail, our post office is much more reasonable than the courier services. They charge a flat $5 fee. You can also do the customs thing yourself is you know how or send it to another customs broker (it will help if you have a friend who works there or something like that.)

Thanks for the reply guy's. the package is here in Mpls. and I guess I'll find out tommorow, if it comes to the house. I allready e-mailed UPS a very nasty letter of discontent with their system. If I hadn't prepaid the part ($225.00), I would just refuse it and send it back. Like you say another expensive lesson learned!!

I asked about this one awhile back and the consensus seemed to be to stick with regular postal services as much as possible (Canada Post and USPS). I know from experience that bringing things into Canadais definitely cheaper using USPS over any courier and I think it may be the same going to the US.

If you dont mind who did you order the parts from? and I got royally screwd from FED-EX the charged me $214.73 for an aluminum gauge cover needless to say i sent it back and the part ony cost me 150 canadian 64.73 extra fees? i dont think so

I just shipped a pair of 72 442 grills to a guy in manitoba via USPS air parcel post and it cost like $18. he said if I put the value of the items at $30 or under it would cost him less at customs. I don't know what the customs charge would be.

Sending used parts down from Canada to the United States
I have never had anyone say anything about duties or taxes. I think we can send what ever down and declare any value it dosen't much matter on US made parts being sent back to the US. I used the Canadian Postal service though... maybe fedex or ups is different I dont know,.. canada post is much cheaper for us to send stuff down to the states,... but they (canada post) won't ship anything over 100 CM long... thats about 40 inches.
