Post pics of custom tailgates!!!

Building a truck for a buddy and trying to figure what to do about the tailgate. Its getting shaved smooth and handle flipped already, but truck has no chrome hardly since we shaved everything. Gettin a burb rear bumper so wont be putting a license plate on tailagate but looking for other options of some sort and need ideas. Dont want it just plain and smooth, would like something else there. Thanks in advance guys

Re: Post pics of custom tailgates!!!

This is an old pic of my truck, but I still like the look. Shaved handle, but kept the recess and embossed CHEVROLET. IMO, shaved tailgates with smooth skins are just too plain and take away the character of these trucks.

Re: Post pics of custom tailgates!!!

Well at. His request it will geg a flipped handle and smootjes ou,just ddnt want it plain smooth back there and doesn't want it welded shut either, besides that he doesn't know exactly what he wants and we've pretty much told him what all else we have been doing and how muxh mode it'll cost. He comes to see its progress like every 3 months but he's in the air force and we are trying to finish it before he comes home for good

Re: Post pics of custom tailgates!!!

thanks guys for all the replies. i do like the look of the blazer band and that would look the best and its simple. although i do like some others ive seen here now. i agree shaved all the way is just too much.

sycotik i really dig what youve done to your steeper , very nice and planned out.

wish i personally had one of the tailgates 502ss posted when i had a square dually, but wouldnt put it on anything but a work truck, and most likely not even a half ton.

and i have to ask, where to get the old school ground effects on the black truck? i dig it, being old school and all, i have to know where and how much, or is it something you just cant get anymore?

My dually was definitely used as a work truck and the gate was part of a western hauler custom package. I have since removed the tailgate and put a stock gate back on

I agree, not a big fan of the completely smooth jobs. They look nice and all but take away some of the character of the truck.

Re: Post pics of custom tailgates!!!

I purchased the kit from a company called East Coast Customs. I am not sure if they still handle them at this time. The kit that is on the truck is fiberglass and the company appears to have only ABS stuff, now. Glad to see someone likes the trim pieces. There are quite few that do not like the look. Check out the website below.
