.....was at the junkyard today and they had one 72 chevy truck nothing much left on it except the outer grille didnt have a ding in it...BUT... somebody painted the whole truck desert camo including the grille...i'm guessing paint remover is out of the question on aluminum..any ideas?..thinking i can get it pretty cheap and throw it in my shortbed

Maybe some #0000 steel wool and lots of elbow grease, or maybe find a company that does bead blasting/stripping that uses silica or something that will strip away paint without damaging your grill- I was under the impression the grills on our trucks are stainless- I guess I'm about to find out about that, too!Anyway, the owner who painted the grill may have done you a favour, the paint may have protected the finish from any rust, you might end up with an awesome grill for cheap. If you buy it, clean the paint off and hit it with some chrome polish. Good Luck.

The 0000 steel wool is a great idea, i use it on glass, chrome, and other water stained parts, I would suspect that the paint (camo) is not high quality. try spreding break fluid on the parts for two days, it is hell on paint but should not hurt, chrome.

My grille had a black stripe around the outside, and I just used paint stripper in the aerosol can, and some mild steel wool........barely had to use any elbow grease, and it looks good now. Didn't harm the finish either.....though i suspect that it wasn't that shiny before it was painted......that's WHY they painted it:p
