Question VIN differs from truck bed

The manual says my truck should be a stepside, not fleetside. Was checking out the manual why doing the curing process for manifold coating and
VIN starts CE140J, manual says 4 is stepside and 34 is fleetside. Nothing unique on the SPID. Did it get changed, or is this common?

Re: VIN differs from truck bed

C= 2WD
E= V8
1=1/2 ton
4= pickup
0= 1970
J= janesville assy. plant

It's your model number that will tell you step or fleet. Last 2 digits.

Re: VIN differs from truck bed

model type 04 is cab and stepside bed
model type 34 is cab and fleetside bed
I don't know why it's under the vin page, but it's the model number that tells what kind of bed not the vin.

Re: VIN differs from truck bed

Looked at the model on the SPID, and the last 2 are "34", Just gotta love it when the manufacturer provides information in multiple places that contradicts itself.

Re: VIN differs from truck bed

In my work, I just run into this kinda stuff all the time. In a manual for a charger control it says it is set for "X" as factory default and just below the list of those options is says "Y" is the factory default

How can one option have 2 different factory default settings?????
