Chrome plating...OUCH$$$!
Just sent 3 peices to Classic Components for chrome plating...All I can say is $$$$! first, they have no projected completion date, average turn time is 4-6 weeks, so unless you have time on your hands, you must pay a $200 rush fee to get work done timely. I sent in heater box top and two trim plates under hood on my 65, the plate is 45$ and the two trim peices are $75. So, to chrome 3 small peices will be about $400 plus shipping....almost not worth it. I dont think I will be using them again...:-(

Re: Chrome plating...OUCH$$$!
Now I am being told there are some small dents in the heater box cover that I had not noticed, looks like I will be spending MORE money to get these out...

Yes.....thank the "treehuggers".
You would be an idiot to try and start a chrome plating business here in California.

Re: Chrome plating...OUCH$$$!
I gave up on rechroming things. It is just too cost prohibitive.

Re: Chrome plating...OUCH$$$!
Usually the bigger the batch of stuff you bring to chrome, the more cost effective it is.

Re: Chrome plating...OUCH$$$!
Yes chroming is real expensive now a days. I have never found a chroming shop in Houston who are consistant either. You have to find out from others who is hot now. Chroming 2 vent window frames cost us $70.00 now. And thats after we do all the polishing work. To get a quality job its a lot of money. just cause its low in price does not mean they did a quality chrome job. Ask questions. One shop here in Houston you can watch. its $100.00 to plate a dash bezel

Re: Chrome plating...OUCH$$$!
I got a quote on a chrome bumper 800-1000 plus paying shipping both ways. I know they are super nice but I'll take a repop for 150 all day

Ummmmm...I do believe I will thank the treehuggers and EPA.
Don't forget all those crazy occupational health and safety regulations driving up the cost of bling!

Re: Chrome plating...OUCH$$$!
OK- chrome on way back. in retrospect, the price was not bad...heater cover was 60 and the two front peices were 70 each. The rush as 200 (ouch), plus return frieght. THe normal turn was 6 weeks...so as long as you dont get hit with rush charge and you can wait, appears OK. I will get pics of chrome tomorrow...
BTW, the manager called me and told me he was not satified with look of chrome, he sent back to copper plating and re-chrome. No extra charge, only a one day hit on rush. |

Re: Chrome plating...OUCH$$$!
Interested to see how they look and your in person opinion of their quality....seems a fair price if you had the time to wait...rush fee seems excessive....would be interested to see if it was really 4-6 weeks normally or if they just push that rush fee...

here is pics of my chrome after returned. All in all, not too unhappy. If I did not have to rush order, the price would have been fine....

Re: Chrome plating...OUCH$$$!
Wow, 200 for an NOS grille...that's quite the steal....I understand now...thought you were being sarchastic before
But really, I think the 495 to rechrome the factory grille and upper lip molding is pretty good and if I were building a nice truck and had a straight but old original would 100% go that way before paying for repop (unless I was blessed to find a $200 NOS grille )
