Throttle sticking
When I start up my truck its runs really high RPM and then a quick hit of the pedal brings it down to normal idle RPM. I dont have an RPM gauge. Is this the pedal or the linkage near the carb?
Thanks for the help |

Re: Throttle sticking
Might be the choke on your carb too!! What carb? What choke?

Re: Throttle sticking
When the engine is started cold, this is normal. The carburetor has fast idle mechanism that puts it in a fast idle condition when you first start the engine (when you depress the pedal to the floor). Once the engine started and you depress the gas pedal it releases the fast idle cam, and brings the rpm down to normal idle.

Re: Throttle sticking
^^^ Yup, mine always has. It builds up quick air pressure from my compressor so I dont mind it.

Re: Throttle sticking
Like the guys say, this is normal but if it is too fast to suite you it is adjustable. On a q-jet carb the adj. is on the pass side way down low on the caeb. You have to shut the engine off & open the throttle to get to it. The screw will face forward. It doesnt take much. Back the screw out a little & try it.
