Re: jeep headlight
A while back I heard about using late model Liberty headlights. Both from the same side because they are cheaper for one side against the other! I don't remember where I saw it, though.

Re: jeep headlight
Skip....
I like them. And the only down side I see is the cheap price.......JK I like how modern they look. They remind me of the HID lights that Cajun Dragger is running. For the price you can't go wrong.

Re: jeep headlight
Well buy 2 and report to us how they work.
There are even cheaper ones on that page, or further down, some even had free shipping!

Dont buy the black ones, i have them on my truck and immediately regretted buying them. The light out put is TERRIBLE. Even with HID 6ks. I would get an all clear light

Re: jeep headlight
I have clear ones from a Liberty on my 69 camaro and they work great. Wire in relays and you are in business. I will be putting them in my 57 pickup as well.

Re: jeep headlight
Do you want good, better, or best? Cheap won't get you any of those. You can do the Jeep headlights, but they don't have a built in turn signal bulb like those posted. They can be had for around $100.00 and you will need the harness pigtails as well.
Another option are the "Round Eye" conversion lights.-LINKThey come with the highest output "legal" bulb and are about half the cost of the stock Jeep lights at 109.00 a pair. I am installing these on my 77 with a relay update...

Re: jeep headlight
Question,
If all of these lights good, better, or best have R & R bulbs why can't you use the least expensive housing and re or place the higher wattage bulb that is DOT legal? Are the reflectors that much different?

Re: jeep headlight
layed out91 , thanks, I was actually thinking about the black ones, so , I'll cross them off,
what is the relay upgrade you all speak of? do all these bulbs (other than old sealed beam) require a relay? , and are they different for an h4 than an HID? not really going cheap, I just look for something different...that's part of the fun! I mentioned jeep, because I was parked by one and it looked the right size, so I measured it, and that led to just looking for others, but had the same thoughts, would plastic chinese , or wherever handle the heat of the new bulbs? the roundeye conversion was aluminum, so I do like that.. and by the way, the jeep lights are kinda frenched so, might make a good junkyard option to buying hagen or other frenching system? they are straight, not angled like hagens.. |

In a stock system the 12v+ source runs through your headlight switch. Even if you replace the switch with a new one, the voltage is restricted. If you run a12v+ power source directly to your headlights and use the light switch to make/break a Bosch relay, the headlights have a much cleaner source and in turn are brighter. As always, a pic is worth a thousand words...

Re: jeep headlight
I posted it on a similar thread a while back but I have tried a couple sets of those Ebay clear lens cheap lights and wasn't happy with them at all. The light patterns suck because the reflectors aren't very well done.
On those particular ones with the lens in the middle the glue melts and the lens falls out. Save you money up and buy the Jeep units and then you will be happy. Then print out the diagram that N2Trux posted and put the relays on the truck. If you want to try inexpensive lights off Ebay go with this vendor http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/7-H60...Q5fAccessories The lights shown are the ones I have in my 71 and they throw a good pattern (I have 55/100 white bulbs ) and look good. He also has light with the clear lens and cut pattern reflectors. You might want to try a pair of these with 55/100 or 85/100 H4 bulbs http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/79-87...Q5fAccessories The price is comfortable enough so if you don't like them you aren't out a lot but as I said I've been happy with what I have received from him and his service is great. |
