Bad Luck With Drip Rail
HELLO FOLKS,
I RENCENTLY CLEANED OUT THE OLD CAULKING IN MY DRIP RAIL, AND WAS GIVEN SOME GREAT SUGGESTIONS FROM ALOT OF YOU. I SPENT QUITE ABIT OF TIME ON IT, CAREFULLY WITH A PROPANE TORCH, SELECT SCREW DRIVERS, AND A WIRE BRUSH. I PURCHASED A BRAND OF SEAM SEALER MADE BY 3M. I APPLIED IT PROPERLY, RAN A SMOOTH BEAD, CAREFUL NOT TO OVERDO IT. A WEEK LATER THE SEALER HAS YET TO HARDEN. I AM SOMEWHAT DISCOURAGED. I TOOK A SCREW DRIVER TODAY AND THE STUFF CAME OUT LIKE WARM BUTTER. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON ANOTHER BRAND TO USE. I ASSURE YOU THE RAIL WAS CLEANED TO BARE METAL, SEALER WAS GIVEN PLENTY OF TIME TO DRY BEFORE BEING PRIMED, AND NOT TO MUCH WAS APPLIED. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON BRANDS ANY OF YOU MAY HAVE HAD, OR TECHNIQUES USED WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS A MILLION FOR YOUR TIME GUYS!!! SINCERELY, FIREMANCHUCK |

the 3m brand of drip check does not completely harden,it stays plyable, it works really good to seal. try it again and let it set in the sun or warm shop for awhile before you paint or prime. gives it a little time to set up better.

I remember that being soft on new trucks for some time after they were delivered...in some cases years later you could still put indents into it. Hey...since you have it all cleaned out, why not just shave those things...LOL!

Just a thought, check with body shops or maybe even glass shops to see what they would use..............

When I applied it on mine it took about 2 weeks to get really firm, never did get "hard" before I painted it...and that was in 95 degree weather

I used the 3M stuff and it harden, worked fine
