Talk to me about 2002 burbs

The wifey and I are looking to get a bigger vehicle with a second child coming in July. We are of course debating about the dreaded mini van or an suv with a third row.

We came across a 2002 Z71 burb for sale and we like it. What are some things I should look for or what goes wrong with them at this high of miles?

Pretty much give me all you know about it

The serive life of the 4L60E is about 150000 miles, Ask for proof the transmission has been rebuilt.

Here some other things that seem to wear out "regularly"....
Front wheel bearings (hub assembly).
Parking brake shoes &/or rear rotors.
Intermediate steering shaft.
Intake manifold gaskets.
Water pump gaskets.
Fuel pump.
Fuel pressure regulator.

That price is high in my opinion, $7500 to $8000 is more reasonable.

Ask for all maintenance records, The transmission fluid & filter should have been changed 4 times, The oil changed 31 times (5,000 mile intervals), Differential/s oil changed at least once. Looks like a magnetic sign on the drivers door, Check for clearcoat/paint damage.

Re: Talk to me about 2002 burbs

i wouldnt be scared of it. the newer trucks have much better service life than the older ones. i just bought an o4 z71 burb with 100000 on it for 12500. really if the trans hasnt broke yet your prolly going to be ok. noraml service prevents major problems. my last 4l60 went 230000 without any problems. water pumps starters batteries brakes rotors all that stuff is wearable items. good luck with your decision

Your mechanic should be able to tell if its been maintained & know what to look for. Records are important to me, Sellers tell you what you want to hear, like "well maintained" & "highway miles" But without proof it doesnt mean anything.

i asked the guy when i picked it up this morning to get in touch with the previous owner to get any and all records as well as the carfax.

hopefully both he and my mechanic come back with some good news

and as far as price here is a 50 mile range around me and that $8500 seems to be pretty good

Re: Talk to me about 2002 burbs

ok mechanic just called me back. he said that it looks like it was very well maintained. he said brakes are sitting at about 30% on the front and 30% on the rear which will hold me about 5-7000 on the rear and 10-12,000 on the front. $260 when it comes time.

the only downfall is he said there is a small oil seepage around the oil pan that will need some attention within 2 years. he said that will run about $700 when the time comes. time to see what i can talk him down to
