Removed the box liner and Wow

Started on '87 #2 since I gave '87 #1 to my son a couple weeks ago since he turned 16. Both trucks are full load Silverados with 350 TBI's and 700R4 overdrive tranny's.The only difference is #2 has a cargo light. Lots of work ahead since the truck was a write-off. Not in bad shape for a insurance write off. It was hit on the drivers front corner and the front frame is tweaked to one side. I started on it yesterday by ripping out the old crappy box liner and after a good scrubbing this is what it looks like.

Re: Removed the box liner and Wow

Very nice! I have a "BodyGard" brand plastic liner in my truck that I am going to remove before too long. I certainly hope my bed looks as good as yours once it is removed. I just hope it isn't rusted out.

Re: Removed the box liner and Wow

Yea theres a few rub marks and some small surface rust where the screws went thru but yea its nice. Too Bad I Have to rip the box sides off cause they are rusty. I scooped a couple of GM box sides off Kijiji a while back for this project. So I will put them on. I guess paint the inside and reseal with body sealer? I dont think I want to paint them after they are installed? Which way would be better?

Anyway today was pull the seat to find the smell...Mouse nest under the seat..Great...Well vacuumed all the mess and 2 cans of carpet shampoo and I think I got it cleaned

Re: Removed the box liner and Wow

Nice, real nice. I did a full restore on mine a couple of years ago. It had a bed liner in it and it was rusted all to hell underneath, so, as I fixed or replaced parts, full panels got spray on bed liner before assembly. Repairs, like the floors and cab mounts, got sand blasted after repairs were done and then the whole cab bottom and inside floor got fiberglassed and then bed linered. It will never rust now. God only knows why I didn't bed liner the frame after I PORed it. I have the old bed liner. I think I'm going to throw it in anyway. I don't put anything in the bed anymore, I got a trailer for that, but it looks nice. jim

Re: Removed the box liner and Wow

Very nice! I had a similar surprise on my '86 SWB. Probably the second day I had the thing I ripped the bed liner out while fearing the worst. To my surprise I found the same as you. Dust, and small marks from the holes.

With all the hydraulic oil I've hauled in my '85 I don't think mine CAN rust!

Re: Removed the box liner and Wow

No it is not a factory seat. they used to sell them at JB's years ago and they made different brackets for different trucks. I'm lucky to have a set in both trucks. I think you can still find them on Kijiji and eBay

They're exactly what I'm looking for. I'm assuming the center flips down as an armrest?
