Re: spark plug wire placement
looking at the engine from the front, the right hand side is the odd bank 1-7, the left side is the even bank, 2-8.

Re: spark plug wire placement
Is an ACCEL HEI cap any different? The cap in the diagram is very helpful, i hope its the same as my HEI because i took all the wires off and the tape fell off the wires because of the cold

As long as the motor is at TDC and the rotor is pointing towards the spark plug wire that is going to the #1 cylinder it doesn't matter. People just usually point the rotor approximately towards the #1 piston. If that makes any sense. |

Re: spark plug wire placement
The Accel should have the same firing order. That diagram is nice by the way. Props for that.

Re: spark plug wire placement
Yeah, btdt, but there is a "factory" position for #1 and the wires fit better if you use it (I just found this out recently).

Re: spark plug wire placement
Of course.....But when I first started out on motors a long time ago I thought that the rotor HAD to be pointed there for a reason. It used to make my brain hurt

Re: spark plug wire placement
HOw do you know when the motor is TDC and also how do you get it to that point if its not? Also which way should the Rotor be pointing?

Re: spark plug wire placement
With the #1 cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke (easiest way to do this is with the drivers side valve cover off and #1 spark plug removed, rotate the engine (starter if your quick or with a socket on the harmonic balancer bolt) until the piston is at the top of it's stroke with both valves shut. Then insert the dizzy with the rotor pointing toward the steering wheel (or thereabouts) because as the gear on the bottom meshes with the cam it will rotate. This is going off memory because it's been a while since I did this.) You will probably have to try several times to get a feel for where you need to start. Don't forget there is adjustment in the dizzy itself so don't get worried if it doesn't look exactly right to start with.
