what I did this weekend
I finally got my bed off to work on the fuel cell project. Reminded myself just how much I hate to crawl under a vehicle on jackstands. I shook the hell out of the truck once I got it up just to make sure it wasn't going anywhere.
Finally got the bed bolts off (I thank God the last time I pulled the bed I bought the long bolts to use on the front 4 instead of the shorty ones) with much use of a wrench and a rubber mallett. The last two times I pulled my bed I did it in a warehouse with plenty of room and was able to set the bed upright on two barrels. This time I did it in my 2 car garage and had to set the bed vertical on the forward wall. It was just me and an unfortunate neighbor with very little room to work. I finally had to remove the tires to get them out of the way. I'm definitely getting the truck down and rolled out a bit before I put it back on! Anyways, I've got to go find bigblock73's post on his tank setup again and then I'm ordering my parts!

I'll have it running by summer! Not being able to drive it in this weather is killing me. Besides, my neighbors have some Harleys they think have loud exhaust, I need a little payback. I also saw where the woman rode hers across my yard onto the sidewalk, thinking about doing the same to their yard in my truck.

I also want to get at least the back half of the frame looking good, can you detail what you did to get yours so purdy lookin'? Feel free to start another thread for that if you want.

I just had my frame sand blasted, epoxy primered, and painted satin black (similar to factory color). While you have your frame that far apart, why not tow it to the nearest sand blasting company and have them do the same to the rear of your chassis? You could also rent your own equipment and do it yourself or even wire wheel it and paint it with POR-15 or something similar. The place that blasted my truck did it all...very convienient if you ask me.
Another thing, use stainless steel hardware...it looks great and won't rust like plain bolts. I also used SS nylon lock nuts as opposed to lock washers...much cleaner looking. While you are at it, use some nice insulated clamps for the fuel line and built a bracket for your fuel filter (clean the engine bay up a little if that is where it is at now). Just a couple ideas. -Jeff |

I'll have to wire wheel and POR-15 it, can't be sandblasting it just yet. I'm definitely going stainless on the bolts. The fuel filter is mounted on the frame, it already has a nice looking mount. I'd also planned on the insulated clamps. GOing to try and find some that will hold both lines together instead of each line having it's own clamps. Any ideas for a heat shield from the exhaust?

I've never heard of such a big wimp. Get on under that truck man.
And what about Dave saying he was going to help? What's he going to do, hold the rags and brake cleaner? Maybe he can hold the beer while you do the work. A old buddy of mine, I mean old as in long ago, his brother was this way. He was more than glad to hold the beer and lean over the fender while we were under the car working. And to top this off, we had to buy the beer. Although you know he really wasn't doing much holding, if you get my drift. Looks like you have a big start on the ride. Looks sort of sad in this state after seeing it complete for so long. Even if it hasn't been running, it sure did look pretty sitting there.

Greg, I am dumping my exhaust out angled down, out the side, right in front of the rear tires...so a heat shield won't be req'd.
Look in like Truckin mag or a street rod mag, there is a company that sells double line mounts in SS and polished SS...although they are not lined in rubber, they look cool as hell...might even use them myself. If I find the company I will post it here for you. Have you decided on a filer door and location yet? -Jeff |

I'll have to find the line mounts, if you find them before I post it let me know! No idea yet for the filler neck. A buddy of mine came up with a killer idea, not sure yet if I'll be able to pull it off.
