How do I verify engine numbers ?

I have 2 engines that came with my 47 EC102. Is there anyway to match it to the vehicle. Where would the birth certificate be if it came with one ?

Re: How do I verify engine numbers ?

For my '53 the only way to match the two is with the title. Before they had VIN's they would put a serial number and an engine number on the title

Re: How do I verify engine numbers ?

My understanding with GMC numbers is that they were not really year specific. The were more series specific. You can take the block casting number and see if its in the year range of your title and then look at the serial number (vin) for the truck and see it it was produced in the same year range as the motor. GMC serial numbers should tell you what motor, trans and tonnage the last 6 numbers should be the production number. Certain production numbers were run in certain years.

Re: How do I verify engine numbers ?

They have put together some pretty decent info here http://www.oldgmctrucks.com/index.html I've poked around on it before when I was trying to figure a GMC out.

There is some info here http://home.znet.com/c1937/Cast.htm You have to hunt though the list though.
