No paint code?

My 69 does not appear to have a paint code listed on the spif like everyone says.
Truck was ordered for air force new, still has tag in outside of glovebox. It is air force blue looking as well, perhaps they were special paints?
Will get a pic loaded asap

Re: No paint code?

Yes,special paint. No factory code for special paint. Does the SPID list"special paint"?

Re: No paint code?

Really? That's interesting to here. Can you share what all is weird?

I am the third owner of the truck. It was purchesed by the air force and stationed at a local airport. It was an airplane mechanics truck. When he retired, they retired the truck and a friend bought it, he drove it for a year or so, then I traded a 1992 rs camaro to him for it.
It still has the government tag on glovebox as well.
The truck appears to have came in a light blue, but not as light as I have seen on paint chips, but it was soon painted air force blue soon after purchase.

Re: No paint code?

Your SPID is perfectly normal for a Air Force truck. Sorry I don't know what everything means. The RPO codes with 4's in front of them are most likely regular truck options, and the RPO codes with 9's in front are most likely military/service truck options. I don't know what those military options are. (I can't even swear that those are all military only options.) I mean a military cigarette lighter? Who knows? U37 is the RPO code for LIGHTER, CIGAR on a customer ordered truck.

From the vin I can tell you your truck is a chevy
C = 2wd
S = 6cyl
1 = 1/2ton
4 = pickup
9 = 1969
F = Flint assy plant
8 = 2nd assy line at Flint
87168 = 87,168 production number

Model number
C = 2wd
S = 6cyl
1 = 1/2ton
07 = Cowl to axle dimension 42-47in. (shortbed)
04 = Cab and Stepside pickup box

The word Decalcomani is french meaning a process for making decals. So those are probably stickers or something.

That's a really cool truck, shorty, stepper with Air Force roots. That's really cool man. If you get time We would love to see more pics.

As far as the paint code, it doesn't have one listed. Military trucks, Coca Cola trucks, Forestry trucks, DOT trucks, (Fleet vehicles) and even special customer ordered trucks had special paint. Sometimes special paint is listed on the SPID with a code 001 for special paint but not the color(usually). You'll probably have to call the paint store and see if they have a listing for military colors. If not they always can do a color match for you. The build sheet might have the color, but I bet it's long gone.
Board member chipflyer is a expert on SPIDs, maybe he can give you some more info. You can send him a PM if you want. Here's his website http://outintheshop.com/2.html
I have one SPID with a code for the special paint color, but it's not legible. Here are 2 SPID's from canada with 001 special paint.

Thanks for the info Bruceman. My Truck was painted with the lime green you have in the pic. Forestry green make sense.

Re: No paint code?

I have a strange one myself! I guess mine must have been an army truck or something?

This is my 69 C10 short stepside. There is no paint code and from what I can tell, it was originally an olive green.

Wanna see some weird codes? I typed them out as my camera doesn't pick up the words. Any spaces are characters that I cannot read:

Model CS10704
4G50AA H.D. rear spring
4V38AA Painted rear bumper
9632AB Radio suppression
9640AA 0
9868AA Cigarette lighter
9904_E 0
9905_K 0
9908AD 0
9909PD 0
9912BM
9958QA 0

-----

4AM3CC Front center seat belt
4MO1BA Heavy duty clutch
4612BA Green vinyl trim
9638AA Permanent antifreeze
9745AA Magnetic drain plug
9886AA Rear view mirror
990_KB 0
9907AB Tag unit
9909OA
9910AD Label uni
9914AA Consignee ____ution F

Anyone care to take a crack at some of these?

BTW, my glove door has 4 small holes drilled in it from what I think was probably some metal tags.

Anyone have pics of what these tags might have looked like? They were gone when I got the truck.

Re: No paint code?

I just have a "WAG"( Wild A$$ Guess).It may be the 99 suffix is a COPO code for a military designation on fleet trucks.I don't recall seeing that one though my memory ain't what it used to be.I mean I still remember it all just not as acurately as others.

Re: No paint code?

I think it's probably a line code for the paint color the Navy ordered. May be more to the code than just paint.

Also I just noticed under those markings right at the bottom of the panel I can make out what appears to be 159. Probably can't see it in the pic.
