Door Wont Close

The door on my truck won't latch shut. I found these pieces in the bottom of the door. Not sure how it all goes up in there. Trying to figure it out. My question is why did it come apart anyhow?

yikes not sure how that would come apart, but the biggest peice is what the button on the handle pushes in to open the door/hold it shut... i think you may have to get a new latch, ive never seen one do that before... which side did that come from? ive got 2 good extra latches if you need one

Hey Ive seen those parts before. It happened to me not too long ago. You can buy a new one or fix the old on if you have a welder. Pull the latch outta the door and stair at it till you figure it out. What happened to mine was that the rivot/pivot and made the hole big enough for it to fall out. I put it back together and welded it in there. I did this just to keep the door shut while it was sitting. Has worked for a few months now.

I think that parts of my current latch are pretty well shot. I might as well go ahead and get a new one.
