Need help!!!
Hey all, i took my column apart under the hood to clean & paint, also took off trans linkage and cleaned up. got it all back together and now i have no reverse!! one notch off of park is a forward gear. i'm sure i screwed up something because it worked fine before, just dont know what. any help i would be grateful!!

I suspect that the shift rod is out of adjustment as it can be moved if you loosen the special bolt that holds it to the shift lever. It is easy to adjust by placing the shifter into the park position, loosening the nut on the special bolt and slide the rod up until the transmission goes into park. The engine should not be running and chock the wheels to make sure the truck does not roll when shifting the transmission.
Here is a pic of the linkage. the shift rod is on the far left and is not shown completely. Jim

Thanks Jim, i did that and park is park, but shift one down and its not reverse. think maybe something messed up in the column? still waiting on a steering shaft so can't drive it.

Can you have someone move the shifter while you watch the action? The only time that I have seen this happen is when the internal shift linkage came apart.

thats what i'm thinking, i took apart the column where the linkage is to clean and paint. had the wife shift while i watched it but couldnt see anything odd. not sure i got it back together right.
