Exhaust Question???
im looking to run all new exhaust on my truck and was wondering what kind of headers and exhaust would make my truck have that deep rumble and not be to loud but be loud enough to hear when i want to be heard? and im thinking about running it out in front of the rear tire on both sides

Re: Exhaust Question???
I like running 2.5" pipe. I used to run Flowmasters exclusively, but put some Magnaflows on my burb a few weeks back. I like them too. A good bit more mellow than the 40 series flows, but they open up when you move a good bit of air through them. A pretty good balance IMO. For headers, I like Hookers. Never had a fitment issue with them, and they are as good a quality of any other header in their price range. If you have deeper pockets, look at the Doug Thorley triple Y headers. I've never seen a bad review on them.

Re: Exhaust Question???
I also run 2.5" pipe with Magnaflows. The truck has a nice quiet rumble when I'm idling, but when I romp on it, you know I'm there.

Re: Exhaust Question???
If you want a mellow tone - Flowmaster is NOT the way to go in my opinion.... I personally like Magnaflow mufflers the best specifically for their more mellow sound. They do still sound very nice though when you get on it good!

Re: Exhaust Question???
I've been using Hedman headers, and they are cheaper than the Hookers, and fit great!
X5 on the flowmasters... too loud man, too loud... I think Magnaflows will be next muffs too |

Re: Exhaust Question???
Exiting in front of the rear tires will make a lot more noise. Full length tailpipes really help to tone down the exhaust. An X or H pipe set-up will also help to tone things down a bit.
Check out this thread, it has actual videos so you can hear the exhaust tone: Which exhaust make the best sound??? Here's mine: The engine is a 350 SBC, mufflers are 2-1/2" x 28" O.A.L. Cherry Bombs and the truck has long tube headers. I ran the 2-1/2" dia. tail pipes all the way to the back roll pan. Hope this helps! Last edited by lakeroadster; 05-09-2011 at 07:37 AM. |

Re: Exhaust Question???
In front of the tires if you wanna hear it. Out the back if you want the guy behind you to hear it.
30" cherry bombs. Disturbing the peace since '68 |

Re: Exhaust Question???
I have 3/4 length Chevel headers, no cats, X-pipe and dual 14" Magnaflow mufflers.
http://www.youtube.com/user/Silverad.../5/70gVHNFFnxk Great idle. Nice rumble going down the street. Quiet enough until you really get on it!! |
