fuel question regarding octane and ethanol
I have a 71 with a 79 454. Has been built up a bit with overbore .30, pistons, roller rockers and a extreme cam. Previous owner built the motor and said it runs fine on 87 octane, (regular). I haven't had any pinging. I have been reading a lot about how ethanol destroys fuel systems in the older rigs that weren't designed for it. As well as it causes the fuel to "spoil" much faster than normal especially the way I drive it, weekends only. I know I can use Stabil to help with keep the fuel fresh. But I'm really concerned about the ethanol hurting my entire system with corosion. Anybody have any experience or advice?

I really don't think there's enough ethanol in regular gas that you should be worried. Plus you're driving it every weekend, with a 454, I'm sure there's plenty of gas circulation there, if there was an issue.
If you were running E85 and letting the truck sit for long periods of time, you MIGHT have an issue of rust/water, of if you have any aluminum, corrosion. |

cheapo rubber hoses will deteriorate and gum up things due to the alchol content

I heard it is very bad for your engine over time. I think they even sell somehing to counteract it.
