new guy here....
howdy all.
Ive been looking to buy a solid/decent ol' Chev truck for a few years now... Actually buying a local farm truck ('65 c10) 3 summers ago, but after getting through the mechanicals, I just realized it was far too gone structurally to be worth my time. Minnesota= ROAD SALT Finally pulled the trigger on this one. Its out of Little Rock, Arkansas and is really in good shape. Just the typical front fender/door bottom rust. This one is also a '65. In 1975 the guy replaced the 6 cyl/3spd with a crate 350/350 combo. He also installed power steering/tilt column out of a chev van. Overall a decent job. Im sure the thing was pretty sweet back in the day. Ive got the original log book, and the guy took meticulous records. Engine is now pretty tired, but still moves the truck down the road ok. When $$ permits, Ill get to the drive train, but for now the wife and I are just going to enjoy it. I do intend to do a mild drop and install some larger wheels. Nothing too crazy. Probably just coil springs. My first "newbie" question is: (insert drumroll) What is the largest tire (width and height) I dare go with say at 2" front/ 4" rear drop? I'm still trying to figure out what size and style rims to look for, but as long as I know maximum tire size, that will give me a good idea what to look for. thanks in advance!

Welcome to the site, nice truck by the way, so the first order of bussiness is to find out if your going to convert to five lug or stay with six lug, six lug your limited to wheel combo`s but not to dispair, you can always fall back on 6 lug ralleys, limit your drop to 3/4 and those wheels and you`ll be off and running realitvely cheap. tire size will be limited to 275/60/15 with those 15/8 inch ralleys like mine.....

nice find! i think you should do like me and keep a stock/factory look...i think your truck offers a perfect platform for that...but i enjoy customizing as well, so i can understand if you decide to go that route

The truck will mostly be left alone. It will retain the stock 6 lug drums. I'd just like it to sit a bit lower and meaner. Im not a "mag-wheel" guy either, so either Rallies (like Richs truck above) or some Steels taken from another brand. Ive seen a couple of pics with stock steel 18" nissan titan wheels, and thought they looked good. Would paint them blue and attach the stock dog-dish caps. Just would like something that fills up the wheel wells. Here are a couple of pics of the '65 I had a few summers ago. It was an odd-duck C10 that the farmer ordered with a heavy Leaf spring rear end. It rode and sat like a 3/4 ton. From what I understand, if you ordered the Leaf Rear for a Chevy, the truck was actually built at the GMC plant? Dont know if thats true, but makes sense..... This truck drove and ran GREAT. But was rusted out everywhere and had about 3 gallons of bondo in it.... Another local guy bought it from me to use for hauling.

Any of you guys know if these will clear the stock hubs and if the backset will work? 17" Silverado Steelies from mid to late 2000's truck
I like the look of the steelies (especially the Chrysler wheels), but Im going to stick with 6 lugs and am on a pretty tight budget with this thing. I think these would look cool painted blue with the stock dog-dishes installed.

I'm pretty sure the center hole on those wheels are going to be about 3-1/16" diameter, and the hubs on your truck will be 3-1/2" diameter.

I would think so, but your best bet is to find a good machine shop and ask them. Another option would be to have your axles and front hubs turned down. That way you could change to different wheels if you wanted, and wouldn't have to have more machine work done. I know you can have the axle flanges turned down, but I'm not sure if there is enough meat on the front hubs to turn them down to 3.06 or so. It would likely be less $$ to go this route also. Just more time on your part.

i got '07 chevy stock rims, and to get them to fit like i did! you will need to get 1.5in. spacers for the back! so the rims don't rub the wheelwell! and do 6 lug disc up front, and you don't have to turn the axles! they fit the 6 lug rotors snug! but since your on a tight budget and want to keep the drums, get some 1/4" spacers for the front so you dont have to worry about the hub and get the 1.5 spacer for the back! i seen 1.5 spacers on ebay for $70 shipped and the 1/4" spacers are cheaper! just my .02 cents welcome to the forum for a newbie too!!
