You won't believe what I found in my carb

So I finally got a chance to start going through the engine compartment of my 65 this weekend and I decided to sneak a peak in the carb, so I pulled off the air cleaner and I saw this....an empty pen shaft with a wire hanging off of it shoved down a barrel of the carb....
Any ideas why? It did idle better once I pulled it out...
I wonder what else I'll find.....

I don't know, but he looks like a good, wholesome guy to buy insurance from.

Makes you wonder where the rest of it went! Very nice looking truck. I'd like to see better pics of those front bumper guards. They appear to fit very well.

Re: You won't believe what I found in my carb

Does that carb have an electric (or any) choke? Way back when, my sister's car required the use of a "bolt on a wire" to keep the choke plate open due to a bad (and unobtainable) choke pulloff valve. Once it was warm, not needed, but when cold... mandatory.

Could be someone's remedy for NOT knowing how to set up a choke...??

I bet it was having trouble breathing so the P.O. performed a driveway tracheotomy. Then probably jolted it to keep it going.CLEAR!!!

Where is the car from originally?

Back in the day, a trick for carbed cars was to use a pen and fashion it in a way to hold the butterflies open to better handle high altitude.
