Pics of door loom and door jamb switches
I'm trying to see what people have done about their door jamb switches and door wire loom routing. Any pics would help!

Re: Pics of door loom and door jamb switches
Here are a couple of pics I found. My cab doesn't have this option, so I not sure where to put the door pins.

Re: Pics of door loom and door jamb switches
I am trying to piece mine together too. I lack any real wiring skill so I don't mind asking the really dumb questions. I am assuming the door swithes act as the ground? How do you parallel both door switches? Anyone? I am not trying to hijack a thread. Just trying to use one that was already started to answer my questions.

Re: Pics of door loom and door jamb switches
This is ironic, I just bought a pair of new magnetic door alarm switches, they close the circuit when the magnet is moved away. I wanted to have my interior lights turn on when I open the door but I didn't want to drill a hole in the jamb. I am going to mount the switch half inside the rear jamb and mount a more powerfull magnet inside the rear of the door, when the door opens the magnet moves away from the switch and closes the circuit. I tried the switch with some 1/4" N48 magnets and it holds the circuit open from 4" away. I haven't tested the switch to see if it will handle the amperage but it's only one bulb unless I hook my under dash floor lights up to it.
If I need to I can wire a simple relay for a few dollars. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Pics of door loom and door jamb switches
So the wire from the door switch plugs into the dome light white wire? Or the orange wire?

Re: Pics of door loom and door jamb switches
sorry - The orange wire was just an example to show the type of plug.
Instructions from the Painless wiring manual are below: 8.0 SPECIFIC CIRCUIT CONNECTIONS 8.1 Interior Lighting. See Figure 8.1 8.1.1 Interior lights are switched through the optional door switches and/or the dashmounted headlight switch, which is usually rotated counter-clockwise to turn on. These switches apply ground to the circuit. YOU WILL NEED TO SUPPLY THE GROUND WIRES that go to the door switches. We have connected the wire that goes from the light to the headlight switch for you. 12V is continually present at the light bulbs. See Figure 8.5. 8.1.2 If you are using door switches, you will need to add the wires connecting them. Connect one end of the wire to the door switch and the other end to (wht) at the pigtail under the fuse block. See Figure 8.5. 10 Last edited by FLcustom10; 11-08-2011 at 10:10 AM. |

Re: Pics of door loom and door jamb switches
I remeber seeing a pic of a truck that installed the door pins in an area that had several layers of metal and he tapped the area to thread the switch pin. Does anyone know where that is? I have been searching the last hour and cannot for the life of me remember where it was.

Re: Pics of door loom and door jamb switches
My 67 doesn't have the flat panel. I may have to follow Longbed67's lead on this one and just secure it with a nut on the back.

Re: Pics of door loom and door jamb switches
Update: I just finished the install on the door pins and courtesy lights. I drilled and tapped exactly where Longbed67 had his. Worked perfectly. I could not get to the back of the door pins to put a nut on them, so the holes need to be threaded to get them to seat correctly. Lights up the cab completely.

Re: Pics of door loom and door jamb switches
Bringing this back but I want to install the pin switches today. What size hole did you drill for the switches?

Re: Pics of door loom and door jamb switches
I did that 7 years ago but I think it was 5/16 or 3/8 You should be able to measure the back of the switches You have to drill two holes and cut the middle out with a dremal cut off wheel

Re: Pics of door loom and door jamb switches
So from what I see the cabs that don't have the little hip part...using the stock replacement part still works just fine?
