What should I do??

Ran into a sorta problem yesterday. Found out I won 20,000 smackeroos on a lottery. Yes. It's true.
Wife suggests I paint the truck, build a smallblock screamer for it, put in PS and PDB, rebuild the suspension, 5 speed too.
I'm torn!! Keep it stockish with my hotrodded six and chipped paint or spend a few bucks or sell the old girl and buy something else.
What to do!! What to do!!!!

Save it. Murphy's law will hit you about the time you get the old girl apart.

Don't tell anyone... the leaches will come out of the woodwork!

Ask about my tax deductable charitable program

Seriously, check what it will do to your tax bill (pay that first) and pay off any debt you have. I don't know what I'd do... probably put it away for a couple of months and think about it.

Re: What should I do??

Unless you’re just sick of the truck and want something different, I’d never sell that one. Finding a replacement in the same condition would not be easy. I’d probably be practical and pay any bills, taxes, etc, then blow a big chunk on the truck if that was my main hobby. How many times in life does a big wad of cash get dropped in your lap?!

And I agree with DesertCat don’t tell anyone, especially family!

Split the money. Half for the truck and half for the trip to take the truck with the wife.

Re: What should I do??

I'd say invest in cloning, and make a copy of your wife for us all, she sounds like a keeper...

But seriously, if this is "the" truck for you, sure, maybe pick a few things from the list and go for it - things that will give you the most bang for the buck enjoyment-wise, and save the rest for the rainy day we're all currently in that may get a little rainier before it's all said and done... Yep, good problem to have - and congrats by the way.

congradulations--- ps, pdb.lowerit a little, put the 5spd in, and leave the six. you would still have plenty of money left

Re: What should I do??

I feel bad for you , ya know most people that win the lottery have their phone ring off the hook (well maybe not for 20G's) but to make sure you dont have any problems or undue stress from such an event in your life ,I offer to take either the truck or the money off your hands .. no truck no decisions to make .. No money ,no stress... ya dont need to thank me .. .. OK seriously it seems to me that upgrades , unless it is a rare truck ad value to the vehicle .. I am starting to get used to my armstrong steering (again after not having a 63 truck for 14 years) and more than likely need the exercise .. But if it bugs ya then upgrade it , you will like the truck better if you do .. I remember doing it to a 72 that I had and the upgrades made it go from an occasional driver to daily driver .........

I'd buy another truck or a suburban. Maybe get a 60 - 63 so you can have both cab styles?

Re: What should I do??

first off, congrats! if you have all your finances in order, i'd save some of the money & allocate the other to the truck & something special for the wife...as for the truck, i'd leave it as-is or mostly stock...just upgrade whatever makes it more pleasurable to you...otherwise, sell it & let someone else enjoy...then you can look for whatever else catches your eye...but like Mark said, you might be hard pressed to find another in that condition...i also like the idea of keeping it & adding a Burb or different truck to the collection (if you want 2 rides)...good luck!

Re: What should I do??

Well since it's only about $4.95 in American...

Seriously though, I'd pay off my debts (tax man first) if it were me. Easier to save money when you're not paying for the juice that's running. I know that doesn't sound very fun but you have a nice looking truck right now, and you'd have more expendable cash w/o debts. Of course, that assumes you're not debt free which if you are, I envy you doubly!

But congrats man, you're a lucky guy.

Re: What should I do??

Thanks for the input guys. Especially thanks for the offers to help me by me sharing the mulla with you. Already got a couple calls from the scammers. I luv playing with them!!!
Definetly keeping the old green truck. Probably never find another like it. Gonna look into paint and probably rebuild the suspension. Power steering and brakes are for wussies. No offence to you fine folks who have those things in your truck. LOL!!!
So we've been virtual shoppin'. Not spending a dime till the cash is in the bank. Gonna be a new barbeque, a new lens for the wife's camera, a little landscaping and maybe some central air for the house. And a trip or two. Home to Alberta to see her folks and mine. And maybe we'll try Maui this time.
Aloha!!!

Sounds like you've got the good plan right there. Plus points to the wife for suggesting you put it into the truck (she deserves at least a vacation for thet ). Congrats man!

Re: What should I do??

Maybe hang some headers and an aluminum intake with a small 4 barrel on that six. Looks sweet as is.

Don't forget Uncle Sam will get about half of that $20k. I personally would like to thanks you for your small contribution to decreasing our national debt.

Hey Lakeroadster. In Canada no taxes on winning stuff. Already got an Offy intake, valve cover, Holley 2 barrel and Langdon's headers on the old green truck.

Re: What should I do??

Your wife scored herself a lot of points by suggesting you spend the money on the truck. A cool wife, an clean truck and an extra 20K, you are one lucky man!

Re: What should I do??

Update!!
We had fun at Costco yesterday. First the jewelry display. She's says 'Look' at that one.
I say it's 'only' 500. We could have that one instead for 12000.
And then the fight started!!!
JK.
It's only 20 grand. Can you imagine the stress the poor guy up island from me is going through. He won 36 million on the big lottery friday night.
And it's all tax free!!!
