Re: What's Harvest Edition?
Technically, leaf springs are optional on all gm made trucks, its just common to see coil springs on chevys and leaf springs on gmcs

Re: What's Harvest Edition?
Leafs were standard on a GMC, with coils as an option. On the chevy coils were standard, with leafs as an option. As the longhhorn cousins know....leaf was all they came with(same frame as a cab chassis)....in other words they have a dump truck frame under them crazyL

Re: What's Harvest Edition?
I guess leafs were standard without choice on longhorns, but thats the only example I can think of that had standardized springs

Re: What's Harvest Edition?
one ton and 4X4s were locked into leafs in the back.
In some years, some models of GMC had leaf standard. Not always. Chevy had coils standard. Any 2 wheel drive non longhorn, could be optioned either way. Harvest Edition... not something that was on 67 - 72 at all. |

Re: What's Harvest Edition?
I know nothing of a Harvest Edition. I'd like to learn the facts if such a package existed. It could have been a dealer promotion,I suppose. But,perdy dang sure the factory never offered such a thing. I have never seen any sales info on them. I have seen the unusual black accent paint, which is not listed as a paint option from GM. IIRC,I have only seen it with Hugger Orange/Red Orange and both GMCs and Chevys.

Re: What's Harvest Edition?
Never heard of it either. Of course i do remember back in the 70's you could buy a brand new Sedan Deville with a three on the tree. It was sold to Amish people. plain jane as could be. they were factory or they maybe had them altered but they had them in dealer Gm catalogs. Might have been a regional thing like said.

Re: What's Harvest Edition?
There was some sort of package on these trucks by some dealer that even had it's own emblem on the bedside. I can't remember what it was, though. It's like Royal Pontiac selling "Royal Bobcats". What? Pontiac never sold a Bobcat! Those were the Mercury version of a Pinto. No they weren't! They are skid loaders made by Clarke! Yenko sold Corvair Stingers. I wonder if the guy has some sort of literature or sales papers. Or did he pull it out of his hat? I could almost recall kinda sorta maybe a slight incling of a slim remote chance hearing mention of a Harvest Edition before. Or am I confused with that special MF combine with chrome lug nuts.

Re: What's Harvest Edition?
After viewing the ad and pics and reading the insightful posts above, I think perhaps Adam (the seller) may have created a one-off Harvest edition specifically for this sale.

Re: What's Harvest Edition?
I'd expect the Harvest Edition to be Gold...Harvest Gold. That's just how my mind wants it to be. I'd like to ask where he got that from. Can't say yay or nay on this.,don't know either way.
As far as Mike's 3spd Caddys goes. Same thing...I never heard of such a thing, but that doesn't mean it ain't so. As far as I know, the Amish still don't drive. There are more orthodox than others and some use electricity. I've heard the kids can get right sneaky and own cars they keep elsewhere and sneak off to them. The Mennonites spurred off from the Amish for the vary reason of differences in just how much forward to move with the rest of modern society. May be a philosophical difference or two in there also, but basically the Mennonites stop in about the '50s. They drive cars, mostly black but also other dark non-flashy colors and just plain sedans. They have specific ways of dressing and there's even a company that makes their dress clothes. The women wear a little mini bonnett thingy and old fashioned dresses. The men are clean cut and wear button up collar shirts/no print. One thing I have noticed...NO FORDS!!!! We have a pretty strong community here with a church & school just around the corner. They stop by every other Sunday with pamphlets and sometimes a short chat. The one feller I talk to a good bit is a farmer. I guess all he could find in black was a 4wd dual wheel Cummins Dodge with trim and stainless simulators. I'd hate to be the one to tell him but, that's a darned sharp truck! (I think he knows)

Re: What's Harvest Edition?
The whole point is that there is no "status" among them. It's all about simple community life. Car ownership is forbidden
Maybe someone outside the community owned it? a "hire car", but that wouldn't explain the manual transmission though? As far as "stripping off" components, I didn't mean litterally. It would have been a "down-grade" to put a three speed manual into a Cadillac where the "standard" transmission would have been an automatic. I'm thinking that some special exception would have to be made to get a manual transmission in a Cadillac? Especially in the big tanks of the 60s-70s-80s. The newer, smaller and even transverse mounted front wheel drive models may be an execption? It would be similar to a "radio delete", "heater delete" etc....it was never there to be taken out, but it would have to be specified like any other option.

Re: What's Harvest Edition?
From the link posted by Longhair:
When I was a teenager, mid 70's, my folks took a trip up to "Amish Country". Seems like every other house had either a Camaro, Nova or Chevelle. Jacked up with Cragars - big and littles, again mid-70's era correct look.Although the Amish generally prohibit the ownership of automobiles, it is estimated that 30% of Amish boys own cars; 40% have a driver's license; and, 70% have driven a car at some point in their youth. We inquired about the cars. We were told that the teenagers had the cars and if they decided to "join the church" it was at that time that they would give up the cars. I grew up in farm country north of Dayton, Ohio and went to school with some kids who's parents were Amish or some derivation thereof. A farm kid that was a couple years older than me had a beautifull black 70-1/2 Camaro Z-28. Again, jacked up rear, Cragar tricks all the way around and N-50's on the rear. During open lunch break we would hang out at the local grocery store. The farm kids mom would sometimes show up there driving the Camaro... the car loping up the street would pull up to the curb and this little woman in her long dress and little bonnet would climb out. While I certainly don't know the rules of their religion or if this was some derivation of the Amish church, I do know what I experienced....... Religion... all sorts of derivations. It's all out there. I find it all interesting, yet believe almost none of it. Last edited by lakeroadster; 05-29-2011 at 08:39 AM. |
