I am running the stock Q-jet. With the smaller primaries and large secondaries it works very well on the big blocks.

Re: what carb are all you bbc folks running ?
I had a quadra jet rebuilt for my 402, I had thought it was a big block carb when I had it done, ran like crap. Bought an Edelbrock 750 (same as on the cad 425) and love it.
I guess once I get the small motor ready for the longhorn I have a fresh quadra jet for it. |

Re: what carb are all you bbc folks running ?
As an old Mr. Goodwrench graduate........(1978 thru 1983).........
Wentworth Chevrolet Truck Shop......... Portland, Oregon I learned all the tricks from the best of the best on how to repair....modify.... or maximize the Rochester Q-jet. There is no doubt, if done properly, that the R-Chester 4-Jet is the best carb available for BBC heavy duty applications. A good Q-jet tech can give you the best performance and economy from the same carb if ya' give him time to Dyno or road test the jet & needle sets... Most anyone who has ever jumped into a rig with a big-block and stepped on it got quite a thrill either from "off the line" or from the mid rpm torque curve, but if you invest some time & patience into it......you can get the full yield of torque possible...bottom to top....from your BBC with that carb. You can get pretty close by the #'s on the bench. But by actually putting the engine to work, you can find that magic combination that makes that big-block just sing.... Just sayin'........(not sellin')

Re: what carb are all you bbc folks running ?
For the record....
We recorded well over 1000 CFM on the stock Q-Jet off of a '76 454 truck on the bench. That's a ton of air. Needless to say..... you sure do need to get it right on the fuel/metering end. There should be a Q-Jet wizard somewhere near you. He's probably really old....or busy fishin'.

Re: what carb are all you bbc folks running ?
The Quadrajet is an awesome carb if rebuilt correctly.. I would suggest the Carb Shop in Ontario Ca. Just cleaning it and putting in a carb kit is Not a rebuild. just sayin.
