Slight detonation still after overheat?
1969 with a 350 overheated today i heard the detonation before i saw the guage. After i let it cool and filled it up with coolant and changed the exhaust gasket that i think was the culprit it still detonates a little under load. any suggestions. No detonation before overheat.

Re: Slight detonation still after overheat?
Find the reason for the overheat and correct it. Check timing. A blown exhaust gasket isn't the cause of overheating. Bad thermostat will.

Re: Slight detonation still after overheat?
check the inside of your distributor for condensation from the overheating ,could be cross firing from the water/

Re: Slight detonation still after overheat?
the exhaust leak was not a small one. loading and unloading from the trailer high centered and pushed the header around a little. the gasket fixed the overheating but slight detonation ONLY under load. wouldn't cross firing happen at any rpm load or no load?
