How to FRY your wiring
Well the other day my truck was acting weird and I notice a wire was fried, but I thought I fixed it.....So im driving down the road and all of a sudden.....BOOM, big back fire, smoke start rolling in through the fire wall, and coming through where the original speaker should be?????......So I coast to a parking lot, pop the hood, it is smoking horribly by the manifold.....I call up my dad....he gets there and says well look at this......he pulls my automatic choke wire from in between the manifold, and it is TOAST....I always unplug my choke in the summer cuz it runs better, but i wrapped it up by the carb but I guess it must have vibrated down......When my ignition key was in the off position, my fan would kick on, it fried the red wire that goes to my ignition, which then fried all the others together.....so me and my dad went to his old truck today and got the wiring out of that (Thank God the rats didn't get em)....and we should get em all installed tomorrow.....heres a few pics.....

Been there, done that! Last Sunday, my underhood wiring went kaplooie in Rt.40. I pulled off at a liquor store...which seemed like a good idea.

Wow you are lucky, you could of lost your hole truck. An to have extra wires to boot. You should go get a lottery ticket.

I know that smell. I remember driving with some friends, funny smell followed by wipers moving, lights...and various other components going on and off...pulled over - friends were laughing, me not so much...yeah good times

You might want to check and see if your fusible link has been removed. Theoretically, that should have fried instead.

Just make sure that the donor wire loom is from a truck with the same style of instrument cluster. If one has gauges (7 hole panel) and one has idiot lights (3 hole panel) you will need to make some changes or you may fry it again, or at least some of your gauges. Just a heads up on this.... oh man that sucks to have happen. I know once i Had only 1 wire do that and that was enough to make me rewire my whole truck.

Yes Thank God my truck didnt catch fire.....But anyways, we got all the wiring back in....but....When I click the ignition over to on every thing works like normal, same with accessories.....but, when I go to start my truck, everything stops working, and my brake light on my gauges comes on......could this be my ignition causing this?
