Re: reg cab shortbox dually

Lower'd or lift'd, the 17's would look good on that short wheel base, but if you lift it I would lean toward's the 22.5's

Re: reg cab shortbox dually

If it is a RCSB DRW I wouldn't go over a 19.5. Otherwise it'll just look like something from a cartoon... Plus the cost difference from 19.5, to 22.5 is steep. Some step vans come with 8-lug 19.5 wheels, and the tire options are decent.

2010 will 2011 won't. They went to a metric lug pattern for 2011. But the 2001-2010 8 lug wheels won't locate on the hub properly since the dually wheels are fully hub centric and the hubs/wheel centers got 0.04" larger in 2001. May not be enough to mess up the balance too bad, but I know it was a huge headache for me when I was young and dumb and put Dodge dually wheels on my dually, that had a 0.21" larger hub opening, had a slight out of balance feeling vibration at all times, but it triggered a "death wobble" that went away as soon as I got the correct wheels.

What two "styles" are you speaking of?

What you have pictured is the 2011 style with the completely different larger metric lug pattern. The covers look the same, but the wheel behind it is different. The 2007.5-2010 17s would be interchangeable with the 2001-2007 trucks, the 2011 would not.

thankyou you have cleared so much up i have looked and looked and looked and every thing i read says these will not fit older trucks as they were 2011 only but recently i have seen them on a 2008 dually i knew they were covers but was un aware you could get the 17inch rims for older bolt patterns. so now i must hunt for 2007.5-2010 17inch rims

Me too. Pondered stuffing K30 DRW running gear under my K10 SWB.

Re: reg cab shortbox dually

So 2007 is when they jumped to 17" wheels & they'll work on earlier trucks w/the hub adapter?

2007.5 is the first time the 17s were available. Lower models still had the same 16s as the previous models. And they will bolt right up to earlier models, not sure of any hub adapters out there that are only 0.02" thick to make up the 0.04" difference, it probably would not be an issue really, but it sure was when there was a 0.21" difference on the Dodge wheels I tried to run. If you tried to run them and got vibrations from them, probably the easiest solution would be to take them to a machine shop, weld some filler material around the hub opening, then open it back up to the correct hub diameter.

Re: reg cab shortbox dually

Gotcha.

I've been wanting to run some steelies w/caps & rings. I would like to run 17's as the tire does not have the extremely tall sidewall yet maintains my 29" target height.

You can run the newer style 17s without the covers, and use whatever cap you wanted, you would need the McGard conversion double threaded lugs to adapt the newer thread on caps. As far as trim rings, not sure where to get 17" trim rings, possibly the lower trim level 2011+ 3500HDs may use trim rings? In 2011 even the base models get the 17" wheels because the brakes were upgraded and 16" no longer will fit over the brakes. Also maybe Ford or Dodge may have had trim rings on certain 17" dually wheels as they went to 17" wheels recently as well.

Re: reg cab shortbox dually

I have a 2000 gmc that I put 17" aluminum wheels on the outside and I wanted an 17" steel wheel for the inside so I contacted Trevor over at Tenneesee Wheel and Tire and he got me 2 new 2010 GM steel wheels the bolt pattern matched up and he machined out the center bore and made me hubcentric rings to fit my rear hubs. The whole thing worked out great but was not cheap but I think I am one of the few 88-98 body style duallys running 17s, here are some pictures.
