How do you like your parts?
When you purchase used parts do you prefer to buy them as is or cleaned and primed. I'm mostly talking about parts that heavy surface rust or complete rust through is common. I'm asking because I'll be braking down a step bed soon. On some parts it's next to impossible to tell the extent of the rust damage untill the part is media blasted, once the part is stripped it only makes sense to apply a quality epoxy primer. Was wondering if most people would be willing to pay for the extra prep on a used part.

well if it is body parts you really have to inspect them thoughroly, if the they are cleaned and primed that is usually a bonus, but that sometimes drives up the cost quite a bit, so Im gonna have to go with parts is parts

If I look at parts that are dirty, rusty, or cacked with grease I usually pass them by, UNLESS the price is so cheap I can't refuse it. I like to see what I'm getting.... once bitten, twice shy!

TODDS 72 the bed does have some decent steps. If I decide to use the fleet bed instead of the step I will be getting rid of them and the box. It just depends if I can get the fleet bed straight enough, it was hit in the back just enough to tweak it. Here's a pic of the steps, they are one of those parts that need cleaned up to really be able to tell how good they are.

Here's the back, I think it's all just surface rust and the pitting would be filled with a surface primer, but you never know till you get them blasted.

Let me know about the box if you don't use it. I have the original fenders and steps that have been in a barn since 70, but the box has seen some hard use on a farm.
Thanks

krue, I'll be sure to let you know. Hey if I need to use the step bed what's the chance I could take the fenders off your hands.

I guess I believe you can not know enough...especially if it is part of the frame or carries a "load." Frame "soft spots" are not good for your pocket book.
