New to forum

Hey guys. I just found this forum and had to join. I'm 25 and in professional school. My gf's (soon to be fiance) has a 57 chevy 3100 sitting in her driveway that was bought new by her aunt.

Anyway, my gf recently got the idea that it would be a cool get away vehicle for the wedding day. Needless to say...I'm pretty excited about that idea.

It's all original except the seat. I know it hasnt been run in 4 years that we've been together. But, I'm hoping to start tinkering with it in the next few months.

Right now the goal is to get it running and drivable and hopefully one day do a full restoration on it. I'm going to attach a link to a photobucket album on some pictures I took of it.

I appreciate any comments on what you guys think. Also, any tips on starting a motor that hasn't run in 4-5 years. Oh, and it was running when it was parked.

Thanks guys.

Re: New to forum

Welcome from So Arizona!!

That truck looks just like it did in 1960, where has it been stored?

Brakes, battery, tires, fuel, in that order.
pull the spark plugs and but some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders for a few days, replace the battery and see if the motor will turn over, with the plugs removed.

that should keep you busy for a few days, let us know what happens.

Want to sell it !!!!!

Re: New to forum

thanks guys.

Solid, its been stored in a garage for most of the time but has been outside in Mississippi for the last few years.

I'm an hour and a half away from the truck so I'll have to work on it on weekends and such when I get away from school.

How much oil should I put into the cylinders? Also, I figure the oil needs to be changed before starting. What do would you reccomend?

Put a few oz. in each one.
YES change the oil and look for water, it will be the first thing you see when you pull the plug, if there is any in the crank case, did I see a oil filter on that engine? If so change that also, any 30W will work, you may want to change it a few times you will know when you drain the old out.

You may have to pull the gas tank and have it boiled out IF it is contaminated.

You will most likely need a accelator pump for the carb, if it has been sitting without any fuel in it, same with the fuel pump, but one thing at a time,
See if there is a drain plug on the bottom of the gas tank under the truck

You have enough to keep you busy for awhile, but from the looks of that truck you have a keeper and worth the time and money you put into it
Keep us posted and don't get too far ahead of the repairs and that truck will last for another 50+ years
