God bless the california dmv......
So I ordered my license (renewal), on the CA DMV Site on 3/3/11.
They ended up sending it to an address I lived at 7 years ago. Not once....BUT TWICE! It was returned to DMV and DESTROYED TWICE! But because it was a "Confidential Status", they couldn't confirm the address through their computers BECAUSE of that Confidentiality. I had to make numerous calls to some type of Secret Squirrel number in order to get hold of an Individual that had enough "Clearance" to go into a 2nd bank of Computers to authorize it! One of the Perks of being the Spouse of someone in Law Enforcement, is that they can apply for a "Confidential Drivers License" for their Spouse, so not just anyone can look up your address ect. The drawback was because it was "Confidential", no one at the DMV Phone Bank (not even the Supervisors) could confirm WHAT ADDRESS, my License had been sent out to, so I could correct it. So I guess the DMV has a Branch just for Law Enforcement/Confidential License Status. So I got my NEW License TODAY, 13 Weeks after I originaly ordered it. The only reason I found out was because they tell you to call DMV, if its been longer than 6 Weeks. So I'm waiting around for something that was never coming. GOD BLESS THE CALIFORNIA DMV!

Re: God bless the california dmv......
while not foolproof, it sounds like a good program for the police and the famlies.
It may have been a pain in the ass, but since you are enrolled in the program, you see the reason /advantages of it. Are you able to walk up to the counter and buy plates? |

Usually, (for the 97% of people without Confidentiality), the DMV, (or AAA is what I use for most DMV Transactions) will be able to "go in", to your History and see that even though my License is expired, they can see that it has been "Renewed" , but I havent gotten my actual License yet. Or you usually get a Form Letter to present when Cashing Checks, Airline Tickets ect to present. But all that was also being sent to the Wrong Address also. It does do what its supposed to do, in keeping key information out of the Bad Guys Hands as far as where we live though. Just glad I got it. Now I just need my Truck back from the Shop, to Cruise Around in!

I believe that most states have a simular programs for LEOs. How many years has the DMV had your current address? The California DMV giving the intellicually challenged a paycheck for insulting the taxpayers. I am so glad that I can use AAA, but that is not an option for you (I almost joined the LAPD).

Re: God bless the california dmv......
Yes lines can be long. I've had to go to the DMV three times this year and the line to get a number to get in line was about an hour and a half. Then about 45 minutes once I had the number. AAA is worth the cost just for some DMV services!

Re: God bless the california dmv......
Sounds like a good program but have you ever tried to see if your address comes up on a Google search or on a website like spokeo.com? If they have your info it kind of makes that DMV system pointless. Think about how many different places you have given your address to. Just something to think about.

Look at the bright side-that's probably where they have been sending all those Photo-Cop tickets

Re: God bless the california dmv......
My son-in-law is a cop, and he had more than one run-in with a local cop who just couldn't keep from running his tag, late at night. It took my son's supervisor getting in contact with the local cops supervisor to get the local cop to leave him alone. All because he works the night shift and was driving home around midnight. So, even though we have privacy laws, there apparently is ultra-private to protect those who protect us. It's a good thing.
