Rear Bumper Original or No?
I haven't thought about this much, but got to wondering tonight and thought this would be a good place to ask.
Here are pictures of the bumper that my truck has, my question is do you think it is a original from the factory or dealer install or after market. My Dad's Aunt and her husband bought the truck new in 63, but I never asked anyone about this before. What do you think? Thanks. |

Re: Rear Bumper Original or No?
My guess would be dealer installed. There are many variations of Barden bumpers, some of which I believe are shown in GM literature, while others were made locally. Some bumpers have the dealers name cut into the bumper face, so I assume these were probably made by a local supplier. Although they could have been special ordered from a national supplier.

Re: Rear Bumper Original or No?
I was told the only "extra" my great aunt's husband got was posi traction. I wish I would have thought to ask them about it, but I had no idea I would own the truck let alone be restoring it when they were alive. I will check with my Dad and see if he has any insight on it.

Re: Rear Bumper Original or No?
I was under the impression that all the trucks were manufactured w/out a rear bumper, and the dealer installed whichever bumper the customer wanted, including the factory style step bumper.
pretty sure all of the aftermarket style step bumpers like yours, were dealer installed.

Re: Rear Bumper Original or No?
Trucks normally did not come with bumpers. The dealer would put on a bumper for a fee and they usually had the name of the dealer and town engraved into the bumper. I always thought it to be free advertising for the dealer

Re: Rear Bumper Original or No?
Thanks for those link aerotruk63, I was looking at one of the order forms and next to the 230 engine it says Model P10 anyone know what that is? My 63 had a 230 in it, but I don't think I have seen anything related to a Model P10?
Thanks. |
