Just wanted to introduce myself. New to the forum. And just sent the check for a 1972 C10. 307, 3 on the tree Rat Rod. Gorgeous truck. Will be keeping it in its existing condition for the next couple years with a few "minor" changes here and there....

Then in a couple of years when some other vehicles are paid off I plan on doing a full restore.

As is. I love it.....

Also, would like all the help i can get on Transmission replacement.

Looking at replacing the 3 on the tree for a minimum of a 4 speed manual. If i can go 5 speed it would be even better as this truck will be my daily driver besides the harley.

The original 307 is staying in the truck for an extended period. Right now it is stock bottom with 305 heads, elderbrock carb with electric choke and HEI distributor.

The tranny is the first thing to go. Not that I mind the 3 speed, but it wont handle the highway speeds that i will put on the truck. I really dont want to do a Junkyard swap but of course it will be under a tight budget.... Would love some thoughts and ideas.

After the tranny the plan is to rebuild the bottom end of the 307. Possibly .010 to .030 over with mild cam. Again this will be a daily driver and have no need for mass horsepower (not for a few years anyway). So rebuild kits. Places i should consider or kits i should stay away from? Again experience and thoughts are greatly appreciated.

And yes, i know the 307 is not a fan favorite. But again for the next 3-5 years im not looking for extreme Hp..... The 307 will produce enough until then....and for the cost of a rebuild kit for the 307 it would be hard to even get a good set of heads for a 350.

Yeah i believe it will be. Since its in good running order and i will be using it sometimes as a DD. Not going to dig to deep into it yet.

However, today its getting a new steering wheel (to tall to fit under the factory one very well). And ordering a new bumper off ebay.

The next plan is to get rid of the Green paint inside the cab. Probably going to go with red. Should flow well as there is plenty of black to offset it.

It does have the CD player and a sub under the seat. Might take the sub out from under the seat and just get better 6" speakers in the doors and maybe install tweeters or something in the dash.

Also, since this is going to turn into my build thread. What is the best way to go about repairing the rusted cab piece inside the driver side door?

Seeing as it's already a stick I would put a 5 speed manual in it. If you are careful in your choice of tranny's it would be pretty much a bolt in. There are some threads on it on here.

Welcome from Florida! Very cool ride.
Before you dump the steering wheel....you can adjust the column towards the dash about 2" I think with out too much trouble. Do a search in here and you should find the thread or someone can post a link (I don't know how yet).

Welcome,and Nice ride.I agree that the wheel is a bit large.I think you'll find that the size is there for leverage.Unless it has PS(I didn't see the pump) you may want the loarger wheel.

Man drove the truck around this morning and last night quite a bit. Drives like a dream! Well for a 40 year old truck anyway.

To give you a little background. I sold my 2007 Titan XE. Listed it on Craigslist and it sold within a day....With the money I made i purchased this. This is my daily driver along with the Harley Wide Glide...

I know im going to miss some of the luxeries, but my wife has a brand new nissan Roque and its our trip vehicle...

Changed the oil this morning. Looks like she will use a quart every oil change....

Really thinking about keeping the steering wheel. However it will have to be moved. Anyone know which thread it was that talked about moving it back 2"? In the next few weeks i will be replacing the bumper, fixing the rust just inside the cab and getting rid of the green paint inside the truck for red....

I thought about replacing the seat, but decided since its in perfect shape that i am going to keep it and just get one of those set in consoles...

Then after thats all done, will start my shopping for a T-5.... After the T-5 it will be a rebuilt bottom end with small bore and cam....

nice truck.
that 307 is actually a good engine. i would rather have that then a 350. raps up faster and takes a beatting alot better. most people just automatically put it in the same class with the 305 and its not.

I plan on being there. Was actually there on Sunday. Looking at an old Jeep. Came back up this way and found this truck and the rest is history.
