Is this looking like a 4/6?
The bed has been set on there since and it appears that the back is lower. I know that more weight will be on the front but do yall think it'll bring it down to what an ECE 4/6 drop should be? I've always thought they were a bit lower.

Re: Is this looking like a 4/6?
If the bed was on it, it would be lower in the rear already, and the engine is going to drop it down at least a couple inches, so its probably right. ECE is great stuff, so it should be as low as any other similiarly equipped truck with ECE stuff.

Re: Is this looking like a 4/6?
The great thing about ECE is if the front doesn't sit right when you get it all together, they may be willing to swap out springs as long as there's no miles on them. They offered to that on my old 4" drop springs, but I had already had them on the truck and driving around on them for about 8 months.

Re: Is this looking like a 4/6?
It looks about right, what size tires are in the front?
It maybe about a 1/2" too tall in the front, but like was already mentioned you still have some weight to add to the front of the truck, so it should be right on after that. |

I'm not sure if they would because I've painted them. Did yours settle in after that long? Also, when yours was at this stage, did it sit about like this? Thanks. Quote:
Yep I'll check again but I made sure when it was going together. |

No, because I already had my 1" springs in for a few years, then just added the drop spindles during the resto.

Re: Is this looking like a 4/6?
When I first installed my ECE 4/6 kit it sat high too. Then I realized when I initially purchased the kit I was running a big block. I switched to a 383 after I built up the frame and never thought about the difference. I called ECE and switched from BBC to SBC front springs with a 2" drop for an overall 4.5/6 drop. I'm very happy with the results.

Re: Is this looking like a 4/6?
Right! When I picked up the SBC springs I found out they offered a 2" drop spring and went with it. The extra .5 isn't much but looks good.

Re: Is this looking like a 4/6?
Sweet yea I just got off the phone with ECE. They said they would've sent the same springs as a SBC for the 292. I'm going to have to just wait till all the weight's on to see what it looks like and maybe swap over to the 2 inch! Thanks for the help.

Re: Is this looking like a 4/6?
For comparison, here's my '69 with a 4.5/6" drop w/ 250 I-6 and 2 spd powerglide (both original). I would set the engine and see how it looks at that point; no need to remove springs if you don't have too.
The following measurements were made before and after the 4.5/6" drop, with the ralleys and 235 75R15's. Additional information can be found in my build thread in my signature (click Blank Slate below). Before the drop: Driver's Side Front: 33 1/2" Driver's Side Rear: 33" Passenger Side Front: 33 1/4" Passenger Side Rear: 32 7/8" After the drop: Driver's Side Front: 28" Driver's Side Rear: 29" Passenger Side Front: 28 1/4" Passenger Side Rear: 28 3/4" After the new wheels (4/3/10): Driver's Side Front: 28 7/16"" Driver's Side Rear: 29 5/16" Passenger Side Front: 28 1/2" Passenger Side Rear: 29 5/16" NOTE: It is always important to measure before and after the spring install to ensure you receive the correct springs from the supplier.

Re: Is this looking like a 4/6?
Wow thanks Nate! Well the pictures you see are with the engine already in. I should've measured before but even when I removed the front coils, I found out that they were both broken! I'm just going to wait until all of the weight's in and then see how it looks and see if I need to go anywhere from there. I might also have to address an issue with my front wheels. At the time I didn't realize that the spindles would push the front wheels out so the front track width is 3 inches wider overall than the rear. Nothing pokes outside of the fenders but the front is kinda close.
Thanks! |

Re: Is this looking like a 4/6?
Thanks David!
Just wanted to say that the note I mentioned above about measuring was for anyone that is reading this thread and planning on lowering their truck. Just out my build thread for what we did (15x7 ralleys) to accomodate the 3" spread on the front wheels. The truck is looking great, keep at it.

Re: Is this looking like a 4/6?
Not necessary, just eliminated any rubbing on the ralleys when they were on there. I didn't have to upgrade to the 20's but that was the initial intent anyway. The 15x7's just helped suck the front wheels back in with the 8's on the back.
