Re: what did you get done July 4th Edition

new cap/rotor, plugs and wires for the '76. pulled the trans out of it, to get the "track ready" build. 3200 converter ordered and on the way. worked on the garage the rest of the week, getting it cleaned up and organized. rehung the garage door that had a bad habit of catching half way up. sold some stuff on ebay to fund the trans work. All in all a good week for the truck.

Put in new shift boot, installed new dumbo ears on 83. Removed smog manifold and came up with a way to block off the ports. Removed valve cover and cleaned up to install new gasket. Still need to replace exhaust manifold gasket.

Re: what did you get done July 4th Edition

Finally did some work on the crew!!!!!! I pulled the 427 and tranny out, hopefully have the motor sold. Got a 454 sitting in the garage, gonna try to degrease it before I put it in. Got some urethane engine and tranny mounts, put them in as well. Lastly moved it off the driveway to the grass, it's at my mom's house, she is getting the driveway resealed Tuesday....

Re: what did you get done July 4th Edition

Didn't get anything done truck wise. I wanted to get the front frame straightened out but the body shops near by were kinda busy, Wanted to start on some body work too but I need a stud gun and Harbor Freight it's back ordered. I located one on CL but it's too far out of town to make it worth the price.

I did fix the Mercedes Climate contol. It was being a fair weather fan. Extreem conditions it wouldn't come on. TG my pick up does what it's supposed to.

New trans filter and fluid. Started pulling out the dash, ducting, and soon the AC/heater box. Removed the needle on the gas gauge, and repositioned it so that it sits on E when the tank is empty and not 1/4.

Re: what did you get done July 4th Edition

quite a bit for a change..

changed out the column for one that move like it's supposed to, put in my old blazer dash, a new drivers door, a new tach/water/oil/volt gauges, along with another tailgate.. pretty much bringing my new truck up to par

also spent some time taking out all my airbag stuff from my blazer and getting it ready again for the shot box, along with making a couple links for the rear end.. all i need now is to figure out my panhard bar location and length and then i can slap in the bags and finally get this thing touching the pavement lol.

trying to get it done but the 15th so i can take it down to portland gonna be close!

Re: what did you get done July 4th Edition

For once i got quite a bit done on ol red.last weekend me and my dad pulled the motor/trans out of orange crush then transported it and ol red over to my uncle george's house to do the tranny swap there so we could used UG's garage.this prior week we spent most of the time gathering up parts to take over there for the tranny swap.Still a few things needed to take over to uncle george's the lines for the tranny cooler out of orange crush, the auxilary tranny cooler from orange crush, all the hoses and fittings for the coolers, the auxilary tranny filter from orange crush as well as the B&M truck megashifter. The 3spd is out of the truck as well as the bellhousing we got that out today then went home because we didnt have an impact wrench handy to remove the flywheel. My dad is going to get a few tools from his shop tomorrow and we will pick up where we left off.Im just glad progress is finally being made after my dad having everything at a standstill for well over a year due to his laziness.

We had sunshine for a change so I took the time to give the old girl a bath then put in some fresh gas and went for a spin for the 1st time in a year, she ran like a charm.

Took a 4.5 hour road trip in the Heap to visit my brother. Saturday we drove down to Pilot Mountain NC ("Mayberry") for a cruise-in, got there too early most of the cars had yet to show up. Hit another cruise-in Saturday night and drove home early Sunday morning.

Here's some pics, the blue square was a nice clean driver. The green long bed stepper was another clean OG truck.

Re: what did you get done July 4th Edition

I got my rebuilt 454 back home & it's sitting on some cardboard on the garage floor. I need to get it on the stand to start re-assembly & putting the tins backs on.

I had a little time after work Friday night (after working on the exhaust for my 64) so I did a little more engine compartment degreasing/general cleaning.

My plan was to spend Sat working on the dually, & for the 2nd opportunity (week) in a row, it didn't happen. Friday night @ 11pm, the young-one's best friend was riding on the back on a golf cart & fell off smacking her head on the concrete. Kids being kids, they didn't immediately rush her to a hospital & instead she went home. Luckily, one of them told her mom who took her to the local emegency room.

Once there, they had to rush her (Careflight) to the nearest head trauma center for care. The impact of the fall nicked an artery for her brain. The internal bleeding pushed her brain over 5cm's & there was severe swelling. They had to perform emergency brain surgery opening up her skull to repair the artery & relieve the pressure on her brain. We didn't leave the CICU until about 8am Sat morning. I had been awake for 26+ hours the latter portion just sitting & waiting....

So far, she's doing remarkably well. There was continued swelling that concerned the doctors, but as of last night her road to recovery is looking good. She has just been moved from the CICU area to her own ICU room & her mom say's she'll possibly be out of the hospital by the end of the week. Right now there's no idication of damage to her motor skills. They did indicate she could have some short/long term memory & possible co-ordination issues but only time will tell.

I don't have any biological kids. I've been around my GF's daughter since she turned 4 (she'll be 18 this week) & this friend of her's has been around us many (most) of these years & is like another daughter. This was a scary deal, & she is one incredibly lucky young lady to be alive right now.

It was great to see her smile last night (not me in the pic w/her)....

She's made awesome progress. So much so, they sent her home today. She has some follow-up w/doctors & the physical therapy stuff early next week, but she's home & getting back to normal. She's bummed about the massive curtailment of her activities: no volleyball; no cheer-squad stuff, & no life-guarding (her 3 main activities). Let's just say there will be some adjustment.....

Again, I'll pass on the well wishes.

Cool Re: what did you get done July 4th Edition

Got two roller tires mounted on Lebowski, rolled it out of the garage and broke out the pressure washer. Found the missing air cleaner wing nut. Sprayed out the inside of the cab, removed all of the trash and now I can see all of the rust damage to the floor of the old cab, and grateful I have a mostly rust-free donor to replace it. Getting a title in my name next week and I'd like to finish the bondo and descaling on the donor cab next weekend if life doesn't get in the way again.

Happy 4th y'all. Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose.

Re: what did you get done July 4th Edition

Was forced to go on vacation, Chicago, Wisconsin Dells, ferry back to MI. Pulled a muscle in my back the first day, annoying to ride, couldn't drive, can't pick up anything, only good part was kids had tocarry my luggage. So here I sit with a week off and nothing I can do. Had wanted to finish a tractor project (to make room for the next truck work) but it's hard to build a plow frame when you can't bend over.

Re: what did you get done July 4th Edition

Busy week-end but took time on the 4th to relax with family. Did do an oil change to the 1-ton and cleaned it up for some more wood hauling soon. Not much else it needs at this time. Been a good summer of no problems with it so far!

Also had to introduce my new "lawnmowers" to their new home. Picked them up last Tuesday but kept 'em confined to a smaller pasture so they learned to come to the 'bucket' twice a day. Still trying to explain to the wife you don't name your food. She never has been this "close" to the food chain.

Did refresh the 10 year old paint job to my 'lawn ornaments' by the shed door, which is where the wife insists they stay...I swear she just doesn't seem to appreciate my vision of "art" but tolerates them away from the house.

...and of course we all attended the annual rural America small town fireworks down the road from here where my 7 year old son enjoyed watching the typical displays and I suspect dreamed of UFO's last night as well considering some of what we saw resembled them.

A nice 4th of July...

Re: what did you get done July 4th Edition

Changed my carburetor, fuel pump, and valve covers. Then put new center caps on my wheels cuz they were rusty.
And, I drank 18 Shock Tops while doing it.
No surprise it still didnt fix my problem.
