Vin Help
Hey guys,
Been checking out the site for a couple years now, Today I got my first C10. Its 1971 Cheyenne fleetside according to the previous owner who had it inported into Canada from California. The issue I have is I cant find any info on the vin that starts with "CCL" anyone have any thing that help me decode the VIN. Thanks Derrick Last edited by Chevys10dr; 07-06-2011 at 01:47 AM. |

72 has an extra "C" in front so 2 "c"s is normal for 72, now it means:
chevrolet conventional (2wd) and the L doesnt mean anything... |

Chevy, Nice lookin truck and welcome to the fourm. The L probably is a missread. In that third slot it can only be a E or S on your truck. Yours is probably a E.
E= V8 and S= I6. Check the VIN plate on the drivers door, rear pillar to be sure.

ya it would be rare for me to see a 72 with an inline 6 just doesnt happen yours im 95% sure its a v8

there were thousands upon thousands of 72's with inlines built, not rare at all. If memory serves, 71 or 72 was the first year for chevy truck sales where v8 motors sold more than inlines, but it wasn't by much.

Thanks everyone.
It turns out that it is a California Blue Tag # didnt see that till she was delivered and looked at closer. It was a retitle. Is there a way to decode these numbers? |

they may have used the original number and screwed it up.
Whats the actual number? If we saw it we could look ant tell if it's a number they made up or if it was supposed to be the original number. |
