drop spindles question

I searched but nothing came up so here goes
I mentioned to a guy in my manual lathe class that I was lowering my 84
He said he had a set of brand new Belltech drop spindles laying in his garage, and is giving me a great deal on them
Only problem is they were for a 92 1500 2wd, my ride is a 84 c10 2wd
Will they fit without much modification? Like maybe I can just change balljoints or somethin?
They look the same as spindles for my generation truck so I can't tell a difference
Thanks for any advice

Just for reference, according to the catalogs, '73 through '87 uses the same setup.

Re: drop spindles question

There are two different types of spindles for squares one for 1" wide rotors and one for 1.25, which use different rotors, spindles, bearings, calipers, and brake hoses.

Re: drop spindles question

x2
The '92 spindles will not work.
www.performanceonline sells spindles every day for $228.
Make sure youu check the width of your rotors before buying anything.

Re: drop spindles question

Im aware theres the spindles for a 1" rotor and a 1.25", but I can get around that. I was thinking there were modifications I could make to fit the 92 spindles on my truck, not just bolt them on. The deal is just too hard to pass up, being that they've never been used, and hes only charging me less than half of what I'd pay at performanceonline. Thanks anyway

Re: drop spindles question

It would cost you more in fabrication and parts than it would cost to buy correct spindles.

The '92 trucks have a totally different suspension geometry.
Maybe buy them and make a few bucks.
I would still buy the correct spindle.

If you really want to use them on your '84,... you will need to use:
'92 upper ball joint
73-87 3/4-ton lower a-arm
'92 lower ball joint
'92 outer tie rod end.

Re: drop spindles question

Would the 92 tie rod(possibly metric) fit the square body sleeve(possibly standard)?

Re: drop spindles question

Maybe I'm wrong on the tie rod.
Look here:
http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...ighlight=88-98

This thread is about a '68,... but the 73-87 trucks still apply.
I still don't know about the tie rod,...

Re: drop spindles question

Here's the parts list from that thread:

1968 C20 lower control arms (in your case,... 73-87 C20)
1990 3/4 ton Light Duty 2X4 must have (1.25" rotors) spindles
1990 1.25" thick 6 lug rotors
1990 calipers off same truck
1990 upper and lower ball joints
1990 outer tie rods
inner tie rods MOOG part #ES2020RL
1990 style tie rod coupler

STILL easier to buy the correct spindle!
I forgot about changing rotors and calipers.
Now it looks like inner and outer tie rods and a tie rod coupler.

Bottom line,... alot more money

Re: drop spindles question

This sounds like my wife driving across town to buy toilet paper on sale. She burns up $10 bucks in gas and comes home bragging about saving $2. Sorry couldn't resist. Even if they were free, you're out alot more time and $. Do what the one guy said, buy them, sell them take the profit and buy the right ones. A whole lot easier.

Re: drop spindles question

Id buy the spindles then sell em. Use that money towards a set of correct drop spindles if for nothing else but ease of installation.

Ding, ding, ding....

These would be worth it if a guy had access to a donor 88-98.
