My 67 lwb: Project Katy

picked up this 67 gmc 1/2 lwb last september. got it for $1400 and a set of rims/tires from a mustang. i had a 5.0 94 ford ranger i ended up parting out to get this. having alot more fun with this. when i got it it was almost roadworthy. just needed a new ebrake cable and new light bulbs. plan is to just run it and fix what i can as $$ allows. ended up finding a parts lot earlier this year. had a few parts i needed and a bunch i could flip for some $$. talked the guy down to $150 bucks for the lot of parts. ended up selling the unused parts for $550. Still had a new gas tank, good condition dash pad , visors, front chrome bumper,and some new seals to use. took that profit $$ and started looking for some body panels. found myself a nice 69 roller with a 67 front clip extra with it. will end up using the complete 67 chevy front clip, the doors and bed from the 69. i also plan on cleaning up the frame and painting it then switch my body over to it. this wil allow me to get the trailing arm setup i wanted. picked up the roller for $300 plus a saw worth about another $300. cost me $300 to get it back to me. so for $900 i got an almost rust free front clip(inners were the only crap parts), nice clean doors, a nice bed(1 rust hole, but in a good spot) and a really nice 6 lug trailing arm frame. now the only thing i need repair work on is my cab(rockers, cab corners, and some floor. so this was a 67 gmc and will be a 67 chevy. sorry gmc guys, just happend to have this deal fall in my lap. actually liking the chevy grille a little better now that i got one in my posession.

Re: 2002yanks 67 lwb

pick of my new chevy gate(1 small dent after the t that`s it on the outside). got the handle to work also, so no more bungy strap.

10 mins after getting dropped off.

all apart

notice the stack of inner fenders. each clip had a set, but all 4 were junk.

getting there (sold the cab for $140- better than scrapping it out)

my truck ready for the new bed. got the old one off, but didnt have enough people there to get the new one on safely.

Re: 2002yanks 67 lwb

got my new bed on.

got the gate to actually work(note no bungy strap-lol). just need my roll pan(coming in 2 days).

heres how my new chassis sits. need to get going and sand it down and paint it. need to order new trailing arm bushings and get some new brake lines to be ready to switch everything over to this one. also need a new oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, and tranny rear seal for when i change it over. get rid of all the leaks before putting it on the new chassis. then of course some lowering springs, man it looks high in that new pic.

I may be wrong but it looks like they are, because of where the snout comes out of the spindle and that they have western stamped on them.

Re: 2002yanks 67 lwb

thanks guys!

got the rear end cleaned up and painted it. i`m just using spray bombs for the frame. using rustoleoms hammered black for the frame and rear end, and hammered silver for the suspension parts. I like the finish it leaves. its something different. once i get it back on the frame i will pull the drums and paint them and free up the emergency cables.

Re: 2002yanks 67 lwb

got a little more done today. got my new rear diff seal in. cleaned up the rust on the trailing arms, then sprayed them hammered silver. i was almost 3 hours cleaning these up with a wire wheel to get all the loose stuff off(man thats time consuming). got new trailing arm bushings coming in this week. now i need to get the front end off the frame so i can start on that.i`m hoping i can sell a few things so i can place an order with ccp. i want to atleast get the center crossmember and bolt in mini notch(that way its done without the body on).

today`s progress from this;

to this;

Re: 2002yanks 67 lwb

got my cpp trailing arm crossmember and bolt in mini notches in the mail this week. started to cut out for the notches tonight, but it started to pour-had to stop. also ordered new ubolts for the lower control arms this week. man, they were $15 each=75 total from lmc-only place i could find them. still need to order new springs and shocks from cpp.

Re: 2002yanks 67 lwb

Very cool I decided to go with ece trailing arms.
Sorry, thought you said trailing, but you said "tracking". Are you going to have to cut it? I'd send it back for the correct one if possible.
