'63 short wide big window
I just picked up the newest addition to the stable. A '63 short bed, fleet side, big back window C10. Now to begin the mayhem!!! Got my rear bags notch and four link ordered up, front bags, drop spindles, front and rear sway bars, drop shocks, 15x7 Unique Supremes with thin whites, a new SBC backed with a 700R4 od tranny. Pulled the front crossmember and suspension along with the rear end from a '77 frame for the HD disc brakes and rubber bushing control arms as well as the 5x5 bolt pattern. I have it all stripped and will be going to the sand blaster this week, then to start all of the fab work on the frame. The body has seen better days but not a horrible platform to start with. I want to get all of the undercarrage cleaned up and rebuilt before tearing into the body so stay tuned for some frame updates. Thanks for all the past and future help I have and will get from this crowd.

Re: '63 short wide big window
Thanks Flips! I have been looking for this truck for quite a while now and finally got it. Just gathering up my parts so I can tear into it. Leaving the house soon to head to the shop to pull the front sheet metal, cab and bed, and strip the old suspension to get it ready for the sand blast shop.

Re: '63 short wide big window
Well I got the front sheet metal, cab and bed off the frame today. With the can on the lift you can really see how bad the floor and braces are rusted, looks like some patch panels will be ordered in the near future. One more speed bump is the frame has a slight diamond in it. Good thing I work at a body shop with a nice new $80K frame machine!!!! Guess I will be hauling to wok next weekend. Once I get back to a regular computer I will post up a few more pics of the progress.

Re: '63 short wide big window
Should be by a computer this weekend and will get some more pics up. I snapped a few of my new parts spread as well, super stoked.
Dirtyrat, I wish they were Astros, they are unique supremes. Very nice quality though and come in a single bolt pattern now instead of the multi-drilled. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: '63 short wide big window
Well I got the front sheet metal, cab, and bed off. Having a lift available makes this job a whole lot easier. safe to say I will be doing some sheetmetal work on the floor and braces.

Re: '63 short wide big window
You gonna paint or powdercoat the frame?

Re: '63 short wide big window
Thanks vega.
Frmula505- I will be paintig it. I think powder coating has it's place just not on the frame of a bagged trucked that will have the wheels driven off it, a little too pricey to have it scraped up the first time you lay it out. I had a buddy who used Eastwoods chassis black with good results so I figured I would give it a whirl. I letyou know how it turns out, I'm painting the front crossmember and control arms this weekend so I can rebuild the front end. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: '63 short wide big window
I used the Tractor chassis black enamel for the frame on my 59 Chevy. This stuff is pretty tough, just takes a while to set completely.

Re: '63 short wide big window
Looks good! I went for the satin finish instead of the gloss, should turn out pretty good.

Re: '63 short wide big window
Some pics of the parts after I picked them up from the blast shop. Came out super nice, they cleaned up really well and no surprises from rust either!!!!
And next up comes the paint....

Re: '63 short wide big window
Hanging the parts and getting them cleaned up before I spray them. I tried out Eastwood's epoxy primer and satin chassis coat for this project. After spraying it out and seeing how it looks dried I am very impressed with it, it seems pretty durable but we will see how it hold up once it is on the truck and getting driven. One thing is that it is a pretty thick product so it needs a large spray gun tip, I bought a cheap one from harbor freight with a 1.8 tip and it layed out super nice, even finish with a smooth texture.

Re: '63 short wide big window
Now I need to finish cleaning out my garage to make room to set up my frame table and get to work on the chassis.
