Back from Cabelas-pic
Went to meet ole yeller today. Steve is a great guy and a pleasure to talk to. We had lots in common and spent a couple hours chatting. I appologize Steve, I tend to talk alot. Met some old friends on the way out of the store and stuck around for a while longer.
This is me on the left, my grandson, the wife and Steve on the right. Thanks again Steve. Great to meet another member. I will keep in touch. And it is a shame that more people could not have made it. It seems really hard to get very many together.

Thanks Kevin, I wandered around and took a few pic's. Had to pick up a few treasures to take home to the kids. I enjoyed the visit and meeting your family. Maybe next time down here I can meet a few more of the board members, sounds like a good bunch!

I have never been to a Cabelos but they are going to build a brand new one 15 min. from me. Its not only the store but the distribution point for the East Coast. Big economic news here. Supposed to employ 1100 people when finished possibly next August. If anyone interested you can apply for positions Cabelos website. This is a good area to live, 50 min. to Pittsburgh, hour and 45 min. to Columbus, oh and 5 hours to Annapolis. lol

It is a great company. Bass Pro Shop is based in Mo. and I have had better service from Cabelas when I had to drive to Kearney or Sidney Nebraska. Cabelas gets my business now. And it is close for people to meet like we did. Has something for everyone.

That is a cool store. I went up there last November with a couple friends, and we were not disappointed. It's easy to get to, and right next door to the Kansas Speedway, what a combo!

Thats funny. Last spring my little brother and I drove down to the Owatonna, MN Cabela's to meet a board member and sell him the 3-speed manual transmission I took out of my truck.
I love driving down there. Other than the cost of gas it is kind of nice buying stuff at catalog prices. The folks in the southern tier of the Twin Cities can get there in under an hour. I'll be headed down there in the next couple of weeks.

I'll tell my story. In 93 I went to Wyoming to hunt Elk.
I called Bass pro and asked about some items and told them I would like to come to the store and look at the stuff first hand. Was told to come on down. Got there and the only stuff out was spring turkey gear. Lightweight. They told me it would take hours to get the items out of the warehouse. I left. Called Cabelas in Sidney, Neb. Told them I wanted to see clothing and other stuff. They said come on. Bass Pro is 4 hours from here. Sidney is 10? I drove all night and arrived as they unlocked the door the next morning. A lady met me at the door and asked if I was Kevin. When I said "Yes" she paged a guy to the front to meet me. He took me to a private area and had racks of camo in my sizes. (They had asked prior to my trip there what I would be hunting, the time of year, and the where I would be along with my sizes.) He told me to look over everything and make some selections. I did. Then he told me why they were all wrong. Do not buy the polar insulated. Dress in layers. (He was right. It was 26 Degrees in the morning and 85 in the afternoon.) Hang the clothing on a rack and walk across the store and look back. Look at yourself as an Elk would see you. They may be colorblind but they see shapes. Some of the stuff I picked looked like a black cardboard cutout of a person. No good. After a very interesting time. He would not sell me anything. Told me that in the store I had to pay sales tax. If I went home, the stuff would be on sale in a few weeks and shipping would be cheaper than tax. Would save me money. He took all my measurements and wrote everything on a 3 X 5 card. When I got the sale catalog, I called and they hemmed my pants, packed the stuff and sent it straight to me. All my exact sizes, adjusted waist and all. And saved me money. I cannot say enough about that experience. Made me a lifelong Cabelas shopper. And so informative. I had a great trip and have passed along tips to countless others.

nu2-72 my first Wyoming elk hunt was in 1993 too. Where did you hunt?
On that trip my friend who moved out there owned the truck in my avatar. I ended up talking him out of it shortly after that.

I also plan to be at the swapmeet. If you plan cover the entire meet in 4 hours, you walk and look at stuff much faster than me. I usually get there about 9 and stay till 3 or 4.

Flew to Jackson Hole and hunted out of Cora. Went horse pack into the Bridger/Tetons. Went back in 95 to Gillette area. Don't know where to go this time. Debating on New Mexico, Utah, or Idaho. Know any outfitters? I want serious people. I do not take this lightly. I have fun, but am very serious about my hunting. I want to be active and fair chase. Not sit on a rock while someone does a drive. I am not hunting cattle.

I don't know of any outfitters. I just tag along with my friend who lives out there. He has all the horses, gear, etc.
We hunted around Dubois both times I went out there.
