Before and After
I posted last weekend about wanting to restore the paint on my truck. After 20 hours of work and lots of products, I finally finished. It is amazing how well the old paint came back to life! Next weekend my daughter and I will be in our local parade in the truck. I hope to make many memories with my daughter in this truck.
The first picture is before I started cleaning it. The next 3 are after I finished.

Re: Before and After
Lil hoodlum,
I first washed it with dawn. Second I sprayed the paint down with simple green and rubbed some of the oxidation off with that. Simple green is an amazing product! Then I washed with dawn again. After that I used the Mequires clay bar system to take off any hard deposits and some old shoe polish...shoe polish sucks! After the clay bar I used Mequires ultimate compound and then mequires cleaner wax. In between I worked on removing the old window tint. That is another job that takes a lot of patients! Simple green and a razor blade work very well for that job.

I'd say you added $1000 to your truck value with that!

Re: Before and After
HOLY $hiT!!!! I am deff doing that to my '72 GMC. Dawn, Simple Green and Meguires...hmmm
Did you actually hand wax/buff it or use a machine? I hate waxing personally but then again I used to always do it the hard way lol Either way your truck looks amazing now! Huge difference!

I used exactly 1 bottle of the liquid Mequires Ultimate compound. I would buy two if I were you. I also nearly used all of 1 can of the Mequires cleaner wax. Keep in mind that I didn't do the inside of the bed yet. It still needs lots of attention to match the rest of the truck.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably buy 2-3 of each while I'm down south along with lots of other cleaning supplies. Everything is 50-75% cheaper down south so a truck supply shopping spree is in order for this week ![]()

Re: Before and After
How much of each product did you use since you said lots of stuff. I'm just curious because I plan on buying a bunch of car supplies while I'm down in the States this coming week as everything there is dirt cheap compared to up here. I rather buy too much than too little.

Re: Before and After
That is really cool - retains patina yet shines like a diamond in a goats butt.
Great job! Did you dilute the Simple Green or use it full strength?

Re: Before and After
I did not dilute the Simple Green. Make sure you wash it off though, I would be afraid it might eat through more paint than you need it to.

Re: Before and After
WOW!! That looks great!! I should of pushed a little harder when I tried to buy your truck awhile back.
Thats the good thing about the non-metalic paints, they buff out pretty good. My burb came out pretty good but not as good.
