I know this isn't my thread, but I also had a question about proportioning valves. Is one needed when going with front and rear disks? My mind is says yes because of the different brake bias, but since it takes equal pressure to operate as opposed to the disk/drum combo i'm unsure.

I don't think the valve is different power or manual. Can't help you with the coil spring rear end.

Yes you still need a proportioning valve to keep a proper bias, but you need a different one that the stock disc/drum for a disc/disc setup.

you not only need a different proportioning valve for 4 wheel discs ... but also a different master cylinder.

Really? I figured with a conversion kit you wouldn't have to change the master cylinder. Now that I think about it I guess you would. At least they aren't expensive!

76-79 caddy sevile proporioning valve and master was a disc-disc rear wheel drive and is compatable with the truck booster or a WILDWOOD adjustable and drum-drum master works also. I really like the versatility of the WILDWOOD setup.

Talking proportioning valves

Jegs has a good setup for 4 wheel discs, can't remember the price, but includes master cylinder and (adjustable) proportioning valve. This is what I put on my 67chevy with 13" rotors in front and 9 1/2" rotors in the rear and it seem to be doing good.

Question quick question?

Mothertrucker,

Do you have complete conversions from 4 wheel drum to 4 wheel disc, with all the necessary components? I have started a 67 swb and want set it like the other, but with 13" rotors all around.

If you do, could you e-mail me, thanks.

fast67chevy2002,

i have a 69 stepside converted to 4 wheel discs, purchased from classic performance parts. http://www.classicperform.com. i really like the kit i got. they sell whole kits to add disc and drop at the same time, check it out!

as for the proportioning valve thing, i am currently having problems with mine, too. i think i want to add an adjustible valve to it because i just wrecked my truck a couple weeks ago when some guy ran me off the road. when i hit the brakes, all 4 locked up immediately, causing me to do a 180 and take out a sign with the left rear fender, damaged many suspension parts when i hit the curb. i want the front to grab harder than the back, right? will an adjustible proportioning valve help me?
