Just saved about 100 man hours on the 59
A cpl of weeks ago I talked with a guy at he drags in Borona Ca. He had a few parts for a 59. Cab, doors hood, grill and cowl vent. Anyway he just needed it out of his way so he me me a screaming good deal. I went to see it today and jumped on it.
The cab is in a lot better shape than mine. The dash is unmolested, no hole over the windshield, the floor is rust free with minimal rust on the and rear corners. I plan to get this one as far as painted and then switch out cabs. No fuss no muss. The doors are bit ruff but the hinge areas are very nice so I can use those for patches. Im excited because I can do all of the needed repairs to the cab and doors without taking my truck off the road. |

And you can get your money back by selling your cab.

Hi Fredo, EXCELLENT deal! I'm excited for you. I agree that getting to REALLY get the cab in tip top condition: repaired, primed and final painted without taking yours off the road is a HUGE benefit. Are you thinking of haivng it blasted? I ask because I remember Kabwe said he had a guy he trusted that wouldn't warp the sheet metal and then you'd truly know where any/all your rust problems are.
P.S. I'm looking for one, possibly two completely POS doors just for the interior skins. My doors each have TWO big speaker holes vut in them and I'd like to cut out the interior "wavy" door skin from another door/doors. SO it doesnt' matter if the rest of the door is trash. If you know anyone or you'll be selling yours cheap, let me know. |

Ooh...but now your final color choice is a much nearer decision. Have you already decided what it will be? Enquiring minds (nosy ones too) want to know!

The truth is I have no idea what color I'll paint it. I like black, I like two tone paint jobs I like orange and even silver too. Your guess is as good as mine.

Re: Just saved about 100 man hours on the 59
Thanks everyone, I'm looking forward to the new cab and other parts. I'd like to get it blasted but it's a little too much money for my budget.
Dan, where are your doors cut? I haven't completed a inventory yet but as of right now I have 6 doors encluding the two on the truck. I have to look at all of them at one time to come up with a plan of attack. The pair I got today have speaker holes cut near the top, I "think" the holes would be covered by the door panels. I'll check tomorow and send you a PM to let you know what's what. Last edited by FFredo; 07-31-2011 at 11:51 PM. |

Fredo, Its hard to describe where the holes are but I can take a picture and post it tomorrow. If it works out I've got a step son in San Diego that could pick up a door from you or just an interior door skin.
Even if you don't blast the cab, you can fairly easily strip the whole thing to see what yu've got...it'll just cost a little more time with chemicals, sander or a die grinder. Can't wait to see you "go" now! It really oughta speed you up. |
